Hi Shashi,

> So Mileage for the last 1000 odd kms has been 13.27 kmpl

That is a decent mileage for a new car, I think.

> (436kms) in about 27-28 litres.

If it is 28 it is 15.57 kpl and 16.15 of it is 27.

Good to hear that you had a safe trip.

I guess that's a nice FE for AT car. Watching this thread as I plan to get one AT in future.

Yes, 15kmpl for AT looks good. May be the sedate driving style, sticking to about 70-75kmph helped.

Gave the car for First free servicing today at Advaith Hyundai Whitefield service center. Forgot the camera in the car itself. The service advisor has kept it aside for me. So pics will be delayed again.

I was suggested not to do an oil change. They said it would already be done when they do the delivery (Not heard of this before). So there won't be any engine metal chips for which an early change is usually suggested. Plus they said they are going to clean the filter (which one?) where the metal chips if any are collected. I dont have any idea of this. Is oil change needed?

The only other thing I have asked for is touch up some black marks left from a Zen's bumper in the parking lot. There is a small dent as well, which I have not asked to do anything, since they did not give any estimate for that. Will post some pics and then decide where to get the dent removed at lesser cost.

The under body coat was suggested looking at the mud deposit after that long drive in heavy rains. Again the price quoted was Rs.3800+taxes and Engine Bay Veneer(is that correct?) coating for Rs.650+taxes.

Is that needed and is the price quoted correct. I usually drive on roads which are not properly tared. But no humps or potholes. Mud accumulates after heavy rains near the wheels. So is it good to have these treatments done. If so which is the best place to get it done.

I am still looking for a jump start cable. Haven't found one in any accessory shops around Marathalli/whitefield. Any suggestions?

One more thing from the last trip. The total amount spent on toll one way till Dharwad was 23+40+35+40=Rs.138 for some ~ 300kms of good roads.

2nd free service - costed Rs.1899

The so called 2nd free service of my Santro AT, costed me Rs.1899.

I was not happy with the servicing at Advaith Hyundai in Whitefield this time.

The car had done 5535 kms in less that 6 months.

1) I asked for Oil and filter change (it was not done in the first service at 1000kms)
2) Wheel balancing.
3) Check the front right side tire as the pressure drops faster compared to the other 3.

Bill came to Rs.1899
Split:
Oil supplement (additive) Rs.333.73 +12.5%VAT
I never asked for the additive. Added without permission
Engine Oil 3.1 ltrs * 191.09 = Rs.592.37 +12.5%VAT
Filter ASSY - Engine oil = Rs.69.13 +12.5%VAT

Consumables = Rs.100 +12.36%VAT(no details on this)
Anti Glare solution = Rs.150 +12.36%VAT (Did not ask for this)
Wheel Balancing - Each wheel() 4*55 = Rs.220 +12.36%VAT
Wheel alignmnet = Rs.220 +12.36%VAT

They had also done tire rotation it seems. Although the manual schedule says to do it at 10000kms.
All they did was remove the spare and put it on rear right . The replaced tire was kept back without even cleaning. Saw it only after coming home.

Finally had to wait for 15 min to get the tires rotated properly as per the manual. The right front tire issue (loosing pressure) was not even looked into.

I did filled the complaint form and dropped it at the dropbox. Hope Hyundai hears to the customers.

Anyway the car has served me good till now.

I have filled 455 litres till now (70% of it at Shell).

So the overall kmpl = 5535/455 Approx 12kmpl for 50-50 city-HW and about 50% time AC on.

Hope there is some improvement in FE with this first oil change.

I have only driven some 20kms after the 2nd service, in city traffic. No noticeable difference in pick-up. The pick up and gear shifts are more smoother in my car once the engine has attained its normal running temperature.

The overdrive is always left on. And I guess thats the way it is supposed to be used.

As I said, I never asked for Anti Glare solution. It is used on the front windshield and supposed to reduce glare and also avoid scrathes caused by wiper. I always get my windshield cleaned at Shell and never use the wipers directly when there is dust accumulated on the wipers.

Do you see any improvement in FE after the 2nd service

When is the first oil change as per the service booklet?

Best done at some tyre shop, especially the latter. That definitley looks like a puncture!

Please put your foot done and tell them to confirm with you about what they are doing. Don't pay for what you have not asked for. It would be best if you just follow the service schedule as prescribed in the service booklet.

In my Honda City, the consumables were 300+tax for the 20000kms service. It is just a ploy to jack up the bill.

I normally get wheel balancing and alignment done for all my cars at tyre shops, not the A.S.S. They specialise in it, charge less and you get it done in front of your eyes.

The normal rates for balancing are Rs. 20 - 25 per tyre and alignment @ Rs. 100. Also you can get it realigned within some time frame or 2K Kms.

Rajesh,

The manual says I (inspect) at 1500kms and R (Replace) at 10000kms and then at every 10000kms

Manual also has a different schedule for Oil change for severe conditions at every 5000kms.
Conditions being:
A - Repeated short distance driving
B - Extensive idling
C - Driving in Dusty, rough roads
F - More than 50% driving in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 42degreeC

Well for me A and C are applicable. My usual travel distance to office is 3.5kms one way in dusty and rough roads. Most city drives are about 10-20kms (30-45 minutes max).

50% of my driving being Highway where I usually do about 450kms in 7-8
hours.

That is a standard schedule for most of the cars. Even with a diesel engine, my lowly mineral lasts a full 10000kms without reducing in quantity or degradation in quality.

Since you have changed oil recently, please have a look at the colour and consistency of the oil now and check if possible periodically or when it completes 5000kms.

Dusty and Bad roads (Average speed 15kmph)
AC Usage: 40% time
Average Mileage 11.44kmpl
Best Mileage 16kmpl at Speeds between 70-80 on NH4
City Mileage between 10 and 12kmpl depending on usage..
Mostly fill Shell regular unleaded on Whitefield road.

Been happy with the car except for the bumpy ride. Any suggestions for improving ride comfort? I am on stock wheels and tires.

Had a minor accident on Vathur road. (The narrow road over the lake). A bike tried to overtake from right, when I slowed down for one of the road humps. He could not maintain balance over the humps and hit a swift coming in the opposite direction. Then both the guys fell towards my car (on their left). The rider near my front wheel and the pillion near the rear wheel and the bike hit my car near the front right wheel arch. Luckily I had slowed down for the road hump and was able to break before running over on any of those guys legs. Did not know what to do for sometime. The crowd gathered and they knew that both the cars were not at fault.
We asked if bike guys needed help. They had minor injuries and were OK. Thank GOD! I did not run over any of those guys legs. And the car just has a small dent. This happened exactly on the first anniversary of the car's registartion.

Meanwhile my usage 9100 in one year does call for a Diesel.
If there is any Grande punto/i20 diesel with auto transmission coming soon then the Santro AT is on sale. Anyone interested?

Not really IMO. Cause your daily usage would hover around 25km. Unless you keep the car for really long you won't benifit from the lower fuel price OR the FE. More than 30km per day and yes, maybe the equation starts tilting in favour of a diesel. In any case, the financial hit of buying a more expensive car right now and selling your not-so-old Santro will definitely not be covered by the savings.

BTW there's not much of a choice in the D+A/T segment. You'll have to look as high up as the Verna. Good discounts on it though.

i20 petrol may be coming in AT on 7th July along with i20 CRDI (non AT).
If you are considering selling your Santro AT, send me a PM, I need an AT as my second car.
