Hey congrats sahil!

I have a skoda superb 2.8 petrol, and it gives me a heart breaking mileage of just 7km/L.
So just curious, even though i have heard this new superb is quite a fuel efficient car, roughly what mileage have you counted?

You mean 1.8 right? Or 2.4 V6?

No buddy, its the old pertrol version with 2.8 litre V6 engine which pumps out 190 Bhp.

Anyways sahil thanks, keep it running and then later on you can come up with some results.

Congratulations, She does look beautiful, although I find the Beemer side profile more proportionate. Also, while you are very happy with the features and performance, just how close do you think is the Superb to the BMW 5-series in terms of outright performance and driving pleasure?

The Octavia and the Superbs (both old and new) have been great VFM. Sadly, the same can't be said about the Fabia (or even the Laura). I wish Skoda learnt a lesson or two in parts pricing and service support.

Not a patch

That being said, the Superb out performs it's competitor the Accord 2.4L A/T out the water ! Nearly 3-4 seconds quicker to the ton.

Oh ok, But I guess the overall goodies on 5 Series must be higher/more than the Superb, leaving aside the ones you mentioned, right?

Okay. Would it just be because of the engine or that excellent DSG box?

Not really. In terms of electronic gizmos there isn't much more in the 5. The idrive is a lot more advanced and provides engine oil, brake pad life etc.

It probably would out do a 523i, the 0 to 100 figures are pretty close to that of the 520d. But it's not a patch to the power belted out from the 3 liter inline 6cyl turbo diesel engine.

The Accord gets beaten thanks to the DSG as well as the turbo charger.

Im guessing the 3.5 v6 AWD superb will be better than the 6cyl beemer mainly cos of better traction.
it has amazing performance figures for a car its size.

high spec petrol engines can never perform to their full potential on our fuel quality. Hence I am not sure if it will out perform a 3L diesel BMW.
The Skoda has AWD to it's advantage but the BMW has it's 50:50 weight distribution & handling oriented suspension setup so I doubt it could leave a BMW behind at corners.

What a conversation this has turned into. Blah blah? In the famous words of Jeremy Clarkson.......

"Well, let's find out."

*and off go Sahil and his driver, drag race, pedal to the metal in the 525d and the Superb respectively*

: Im sure my dad and will get down to that if and when we leave to or from work together. But like I said whoever would be behind the wheel of the 525d would have a huge grin and a speck of a white superb in his rear view mirror.
