My Titanium Tdci figo is due for the 20k service this weekend.
From the forum threads, I want to ensure I get the new ECU map. How do I go about asking the ASC for this? When I booked my service appointment, they were a bit clueless about this. (Shreeji Ford workshop Thane).

Mumbai guys, have any of you gotten the new map? If so, please let me know where you got it done, I'll be very grateful.

I have a few niggles after 1yr, 4 months of city driving. But the car performed brilliantly with full load on a recent drive to Belgaum and back. Apart from the ground clearance (or lack thereof) and front suspension groan/creaking, there is not much I can complain about. Thinking of getting the race-dynamics piggyback ECU DieselTRONIC PRO after seeing the improvements it gave my brother's xylo and friend's xuv.

"I recently bought my Figo Titanium Petrol in September 2012. My daily run in Bangalore city is about 15 kms on an average. I'm yet to take her out on the highway. The car has clocked only 2300+ kms as of yet and I'm getting a paltry milage of 9kmpl (80% AC) in bumper to bumper traffic. Is there anything that I can do to increase this like changing tyres (using stock) or filters? I think I'm a pretty decent driver as I used to get 14kmpl (80% AC) off my Wagon R earlier on. I don't drive rash at all. What sort of mileage should I expect with this car in a long run? And what sort of mileage are you guys getting in you Petrol Figo? Thanks in advance."

Figo 1.2 is a different car in the sense , two of the main attractions of owning a car is not available on this. One being efficiency and the other- power., which is one of the reasons you hardly find a Figo Petrol on road , compared to diesels.

As to the efficiency, 9kmpl is actually low and single digit is not what you should be getting. I have got 11-12 kmpl from when I purchased the car till date which is 21000 kms. This is with manual climate control as I call it, manually turning on/off the AC which actually helps in fuel efficiency and power output. If the AC is turned on all the while, you should get a minimum of 10.5-11 kmpl.

In city, revving the car to around 2.5k rpm is good when changing gears and on highways, keep the rpm at 2500 rpm will give you around 18kmpl with 50 % a/c. The car actually comes alive post 2500 rpm and can be enjoyed then. The engine is a 16 valvle DOHC, so all is not lost and is not all that bad when it comes to the power department. Of course, do not compare it to the Swift or Honda, but do compare the steering and handling with the rest and you will be very happy., rather your friend will be.
If you master changing gears at the rights revvs and keeping the revvs at the right band, you can shame other 1.2's

Expect the figures to increase and enjoy the car.

With 30K on the ODO, in Bangalore traffic I get 10-12kmpl. On the highways you can get upto 16kmpl if driven at a steady 80kmph and would drop to 14ish when driven at 120kmph.

I compared old gen ddis swift which has turbo lag at 2k rpm, till it reaches 2k, it was irritating. But in Figo the turbo lag is upto some 1.6k rpm only, it has very minimal turbo lag, hence Figo tdci is easier to drive in city traffic compared to ddis old gen swift and i20 crdi.

Even if you compare the new generation Swift, the initial throttle response is better in the Figo. Having driven both, I still prefer the Figo within city limits. But in an open stretch, where you can keep the engine on the boil, the equation changes in favour of the Swift.

But agree that Figo's hydraulic steering is not butter smooth as Electric power steerings.

I felt Figo is bit tougher when compared to Swift D (new gen), Micra D and Beat D. All of these cars have EPS so they were feather lite and easy to maneuver in parking speeds.

Somehow, I never liked the artificial feel of the EPS. It never gives the linear and weighted feel of the good old HPS. One day, somebody may put enough effort to make an EPS, which feels just like an HPS. I for one, feel that even the HPS in the Figo is a little over-assisted at parking speeds :)
A featherlite disconnected steering makes me nervous, even at parking speed.

Also in Figo slow speed ride over bumpy roads makes you FEEL the bump due to stiffer suspension and low slung seating.

As far as I've noticed, the Figo's suspension is tuned for a balance between ride comfort and handling. The Swift, for me, is a bit more hardly sprung and I could feel the humps better, than in the Figo. But the sound deadening in the Figo is pathetic as you can hear every thud inside the cabin. If the Figo had a more powerful engine, I would have liked a bit more hard suspension, that could improve the handling even further (tout), albeit at the cost of ride quality.

Has anyone experienced a engine shut down on a 1.2 while driving? I had my first experience today when I was de-accelrating at around 20-30kmh in gear and the engine shut down with 4 beeps.
Realized the engine is dead only after the car slowed down quickly due to being in gear and the clutch not engaged. Started soon after and no issues then.
Point to note is that I was driving on test mode for a couple of kms to check the engine temp when this happened. I will be visiting Metro Ford on Monday for a ECU Flash and will update here.
I have experienced frequently the engine rpm dropping below idle when half clutch and de-acclerating, but engine never turned off. I heard this was an issue with the Swift Petrol as well which is corrected by an ECU update.

First of all, the test mode has nothing to do with this issue. I can say from personal experience because I drive quite frequently on this mode, to keep a tab on the engine temperatures.

As for the engine RPM dropping below the idle RPM is also normal, because the engine is put under load. That is why newcomers often stall cars since they are not yet able to co-ordinate the clutch along with the accelerator pedal.

Lastly, I believe this could be a one off incident(if you were driving on half-clutch) & you may want to observe a little more before pursuing with the Ford A.S.S.

I am trying to get a suction-based tablet mount, fixed on my Figo's dash, right above the AC vents in the centre.

This was the mount that I bought.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MK01XS

However, I now realize that I'll have to make this cavity (highlighted in the picture) filled up, so that it is level with the rest of the dash around, before I could put the mount on.

Any ideas how I can go about filling this cavity?

Yesterday, I got Roots Windtone horns installed on my Figo tdci. The tone is just like the Skoda/VW horns. Pair of horns costed me Rs.560/- + Rs.120/- for relay. The electrical guy sleeved the main horn wiring and installed the relay and took Rs.150/- labour. This will surely void my electrical warranty on my 6 month old Ford Figo.

Loved to hear the sweet tone and took a drive through lanes just to horn. Sorry for sound polluting. The titaninum version's got airbag in steering and its hard to press horn compared to zxi or exi.

You could have done the installation at the dealer. Would have saved you the warranty. Otherwise, you could have used a whole new wiring with a different switch to activate this horn.

Windtones are quite pleasing. So people & vehicles love to hear we honk & just would not move away! This is not so effective!

I enquired about fixing windtone horn at A.S.S during my first service, but they did not agree to do it. Any Maruti A.S.S would do this and even installation of wiring harness & headlamp etc. But Ford is some what says no no to after market fitments.

Some how it is bit effective than single stock horn on pedistriants as I noticed in today's morning drive

I am seriously considering Figo diesel to replace my wife's Zen Estillo. I am bit worried about the low ground clearance, specially when I observed the position of oil sump. I feel that, if I have to pass through a bad stretch, oil sump will be the first to take a hit. What do you guys think, should I be worried about hitting the sump, probably by a stone or something?

You can fill that cavity and make it smooth (suitable for mounting suction based stands) by a piece of glass, preferably 10-12 mm thick. You can have the glass cut in any shape (round/oval/square/shape of the cavity) and get the edges smooth by a glass specialist. The glass can be stuck with the help of strong automotive grade double sided tape.

You can check the following DIY thread.

Hey ANUJ! I had the similar questions in my mind too due to low ground clearance.. But the car will be just fine.. It has taken a few hits.. But it's still fine.. Once the the fuel float got stuck.. But other than that. You needn't worry about anything.. I've driven on the worst roads in Chennai..

I'm having a 2011 Figo TDCi and this time while in Kerala, I've taken it through a typical village road which was full of stones/large undulations and just wide enough to accommodate a Figo. The journey was around a kilometer and half or so, with 4 adults and 2 children in the car. I managed to hit the underbody only once (due to my mistake as I did not judge the terrain properly). I made the return journey without touching the bottom. The issue with Figo is that it only hits at two points (that was my observation over 23K kms) and those two points are under the rear passenger foot well. My car never touched the ground anywhere else in it's 23K service life.
So, I don't think it's ever going to hit the sump in normal service.
(I don't have a video of the excursion, but I think I should have taken it as it was nothing short of mild off-roading)

Did a 6 day trip from Gurgaon to Pune and back over the holidays.
While going, we did 27 hours non-stop (2 drivers - 3 tea breaks and one lunch and dinner break)
Total distance covered was approximately 1585km. Mileage - 19.xx kmpl.
While coming back we did 1670km over two days (I was driving) Mileage - again 19.xx kmpl.

Damages
On Gurgaon - Jaipur stretch, trucks occupied two lanes forcing traffic to overtake from left. I did that but a sudden swerve by the truck forced me almost off the road and then, the left most lane ended abruptly. Accelerated to overtake in time but left front wheel hit a big ditch and tyre was ripped at one place. Took my own time figuring out the figo jack :D New tyre 4.1k

While coming back, again on the jaipur- gurgaon stretch, a truck decided to go on the wrong side - in the fog. I was on the fast lane and in the process of overtaking one truck. The truck beside me swerved into my lane to avoid hitting the truck coming from wrong side. I braked in time but the jeep behind me couldn't. So a minor scratch on the rear left. No dents.

Damages apart, i am so much in love with the Figo again :)
