Have a question on Engine belt replacement - during my last visit 50k service, service guy told me after inspection that the Engine belt needs to be changed and has to be changed with entire set of pretensioner, pulley and it would cost me 13000. This was a weird explanation and i was told if i dont the vehicle will break down in 3-4 weeks. But i didnt budge and got the rest of the service done.
I have driven for 5k more now and no issues, i would like to know if what they say is true or they are feeding me horse manure. |
I was told the same story at the 40K service and the service attendant told I could get it done in the 50k service. This is one thing about the Ford engines that I hate. My dad's old Escort 1.8 d lost it's belt and the entire engine went for a toss. We eventually scrapped the engine.
Scary to say the least.
This is one of the reasons I intend to exchange the Figo and get an i20 for diwali.
When my Fiesta was undergoing free summer camp last year, the SA and I had a little chat. I was telling him the the Figo tdci I have seems to be costing the same as my petrol Fiesta on the maintenance front.
He said I should wait till 60 k on the odo when I'll start feeling the pinch of the tdci. He said some set of belts have to be changed for Rs 13000 on the tdci, compared to Rs 3500 on the Duratec petrol. So I think that is the one they were referring to during the 50 K service of Scorpio07. I guess he can wait till 60 K.
Hi Guys,
I faced a really bad situation with my ford figo diesel today. My speedometer stopeed working all of a sudden(It has happened earlier also), normally it comes back after couple of minutes. I was planning on rectifying it. Today, i lost the full throttle response just after that. My rpm was just above 1000 and i had no throttle response whatsoever. Since my home was near by and i was getting a slight response after moving into second or third gear, i somehow managed to drive for a km and reach home. Still rpm hardly moved above 1400, that too for couple of seconds. I didn't get any warning lights. One thing i noticed was, there was throttle response while i shifted to reverse gear. Please help me with your expert advice. My vehicle is 84k run. I service it from Ford A.S.S. I am really worried about the problem. Please help me with this issue.

Hi Aneesh,
Is the car under warranty? I would suggest you to call ford India anyways on their hotline on priority and then book a visit to the local Ford service station.
This way you can make sure prompt attendance to your issue by dealership along with close involvement of Ford Engineers in the case.
Also, see what other members would want to suggest here; may be they would guide you to some right person in your vicinity, if you are in 'the out of warranty' zone.
Regards
Dinesh Malhotra
(Previously owned ford figo for 5 years, that too a lemon. It's like been there done that story for me)
Hi Dinesh,
Thank you for the quick reply. My car is out of warranty. Its into its 5th year. I live near IIM Bangalore. It would be great if someone could point me in the right direction regarding the possible causes for this. I would like to be informed as much as possible when I visit ford A.S.S

Vehicle speed sensor needs replacement. Total cost incurred would be approx 1600 INR.

Hi Diesel Lover, Thank you for your reply. My worry is, earlier also my speedometer used to fail and it would come back after few minutes max. The only issue i faced a that time was, engine knocking when i press throttle. Once throttle remains pressed it would be like any other car.
This time the throttle failed. But it's working in reverse gear. Sorry if i am bothering you, but a detailed reply would soothe my nerve. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Aneesh

The same thing happened in my car as well according to the sequence u mentioned. Take it to A.S.S. They will connect it to their system. The system will show error codes which will indicate faulty vehicle speed sensor. They will replace it and will clear the error codes. Total damage to pocket will be approximately 1600 inr. It will be done in an hour's time.

Hello Annesh,
Yours is diesel or gasoline model?. In Diesel with BS4 config we don't have throttle in any of the cars as far I know. The imported European config would have it for the external EGR control only. I would agree with Diesel lover that there might be an issue with the vehicle speed sensor, apparently the strategy is entering into "limp home mode" with regulated engine RPM.
If its gasoline with electronic throttle body , you would face the same issue with failure in the throttle position sensor.
Dear Folks,
Experienced a shocker in my Figo. Was traveling to office as usual and was cruising at 30-40 KMPH. Hit a pot-hole and :Shockked: the driver side door opened by itself (Not completely). Was confused for sometime and I halted the car & checked for any abnormalities. Didn't observe anything though. Is this one off an incident or a serious issue with the door? Any experiences from fellow BHPians?
Thanks
Krishna

Sorry to be picking bones, but are you sure the door was locked securely prior to the incident? There is a warning light but no audible warning !

This seems to be a one-off incident. Always wear seat belts even if it is a small ride. Take to the A-S-S and get it inspected at the earliest.

@sunsetorange Yes, mine is Titanium version and the doors auto-lock on attaining 7KMPH. This incident happened after traveling 10 Kms. So I guess there could be something wrong with the door. Also, There is a chime for Door ajar warning. When the car is stationary only the light is displayed, but when the car is in motion, you get the chime ( same beep you get for low fuel ).
@RGK Sure. I always wear a seat belt whether 0.1 or 10 KMs. I request all of us to please wear the seat belt. In cases of doors malfunctioning, seat belts would save us.

Ah yes I forgot about the chime ( my bad!). I've been using the Figo as my daily drive for the last 3 years but nothing similar happened, touch wood.
Alarming to say the least.
Hey Folks, last weekend I gave my car for 30000 km service and had pointed out an assumed oil leak that i noticed but didnt take any action, infact I had shared a pic before on this forum as well. As it turns out the leak was not oil but Fuel leakage though very minor but still could have been dangerous :Frustrati. A.S.S said that part highlighted in yellow is the assembly that needs to be changed and it costs ~12000. Luckily its covered in extd warranty but I still cant comprehend why it costs so much, it seems more like a hose pipe with some form of plunger. Anyways the car is stuck at dealership as the part rarely fails and not in stock. Hopefully I get the car back by weekend.
