Got my Mercedes E250 CDI in Calcite White

Got my E250 CDI in Calcite White.

This car is indeed very responsive and fast for a 4 pot, the engine is bit more noisy compared to the 350 but nevertheless has a high levels of refinement.

I felt the auto-box to be a little jerky at times, maybe its my constant throttling? Initial feedback on the mileage, covered a distance 1000 km on a tank full of 80 litres, mixed running with 60% on highway and 40% city.

Will compare 0-100 figures with my friends 350 CDI and post it.

My initial observations on the differences between the 250 and the 350.

1. Front bumpers have crome lining on the 250 which is missing on the 350
2. ORVMs are not auto dimming on the 250
3. Wooden trim on the steering is missing on the 250
4. Wooden trim on dash is a brighter brown than than the dark brown on 350
5. Alloys are 10 spoke 17" on 250 compared to 5 spoke 17" on 350
6. No visible exhaust on 250 compared to twin exhaust on 350
7. 5 speed auto on 250 has no paddle shift and no gear lever on steering
8. Front grill has 4 louvers on 250 compared to 3 louvers on the 350
9. Odometer display panel has a plane black background, 350 has chrome
10. Only beige interiors on 250 compared with black and brown on 350
11. Interion is dual trim (beige and black) compared to all black on 350

On the whole i am extremely happy with my decision to go for the 250 vs the 350. Also saved over 800,000 bucks. Neat

So far one hangup: Left OVRM is useless... Has very poor vision!

Stay tuned for more updates...

Hope this helps future buyers

Congrats TE! The E250 has 500 NM of torque and is substantially cheaper than the E350. This is Merc's bread & butter car in India.

Two cylinders less .

One thing I love about my C is the stupendous tank range. 1000 kms on a tank for a car of the E's size is respectable. You could nearly do a Mumbai-Goa return trip without a fill.

Me thinks it is hard-wired into Merc's DNA. Have you been through my test report of the E350

We look forward to the (customary) pictures. Congratulations and do drive that torque monster safe!

congratulations toxicexpulsion! which other cars you had considered before zeroing on MERC (Audi, BMW etc) ? Any mods planned for the car?

What are auto-dimming ORVMs?

Also, please tell us more about other cars you have in garage?

Eagerly awaiting for the pics!

Auto dimming ORVM's dim automatically at night to help reduce glare. The mirrors work just like the IRM that dim.

It was a close call between the Audi A6 and the E Class. I like both these cars equally, there is no clear winner but each has its own character and calibre. The 5 series was not considered because i already own one. The A6 has been around for quite some time now and is due for a refresh very soon and moreover non-quattro models in the Audi's are FWD which was very surprising so the 2.7 was simply out of contention.

Watch this link:

The MMI on the Audi is a delight and its face lifted rear is simply stunning. I would have considered the 3.0TDI quattro which IMHO is in a different league altogether in grip levels but again the entire marquee is due for a refresh.

Either you love the looks of the new E class or you just hate it and i loved it! It does lags in the department of user interface (COMAND system) but i do not give these user interface devices a lot of importance rather focus mainly on raw driving, comfort, performance and styling. The E class is an all in one package, it has a good blend of everything... A clear winner and im a happy owner!

One thing i miss in this E class is AMG style 3 blade grill for which i've been hunting to source in India.

Note: Everytime i sit in my friends A6, it somehow feels more spacious and roomier! Perplexed by this fact.

Will put the pics, need to buy a new camera asap... My current one's display cracked.

Cars in my garage:
Mercedes E250 CDI 2010
Audi A4 2.0TDI 2009
Volvo XC90 D5 2009
BMW 525D 2007 (Sprintbooster and Bluefin)
Toyota Camry 2008
Honda Civic 2008
Skoda Laura 2009

toxic- could you give us a brief review of your 525d. Would like to know how the Sprintbooster is performing and what exactly is the Bluefin? Also if the 250CDi is as fun to drive as the 525d?

Hope it does make a noticable difference in driving without harming the gearbox. Their website claims the box saves fuel or your money back !

Congratulations on your new E250 CDI. I really like the new W212 even though there are those who do not agree with me on that. It is one of the better cars that Mercedes has come up with in recent times. The 500 NM itself is so inviting. Nice initial report and hope to see you updating this thread with your ownership experience. And yes we need pictures too

Congratulations and drive safe.

Sprint Booster is a great mod, it makes the car feel very responsive and eliminates any lag whatsoever, a must for any car! Bluefin is a device which gives a bhp and torque boost.

I learnt about all this when i was studying in UK, my roommate was a total petrol head. Must say that my 525 beats the s**t out of any 530 in town
Not looking at modding the mercedes at moment but the A4 will get both sprintbooster and bluefin very soon. I've had the mods on my 5 for almost 2 years now and there have been no problems whatsoever. Its fantastic! I have beaten the crap out of so many 530d owners who line up by me at the stop signal Makes them look like fools wearing the 530d badge. I also upgraded the stock tyres to 245/45 17 which is usually the first mod i make to a new car.

Surprisingly the 2010 E class is very agile, i think mercedes have hit the sweet-spot with this model but it still cant match up to the balance and control of the 525d hitting the apex at 120. Unfortunately there is no wheel spinning or any drifting action in the E, the electronics kick in almost instantly everytime but nevertheless as mentioned before its a great car to drive, sprint and cruise on civilian roads but on the race track i wouldn't dream of it even coming close to the 5 but on the civilian roads (specially indian) will make sure you feel each and every bump all the way up your spine and porsche cayman s will you feel them all the way up your head.

I think people invariably miss a point here: There is trade off between performance and luxury.

We had MB bring over a E350 for a test drive yesterday. Overall I liked the car. One sore spot though -- paint quality sucked. Orange peel everywhere. What's up with that? I was expecting better quality from MB.

Painted by Tata's. Quite surprised, most people seem to have no problem with it. Unless they have sent pre-production cars as test drive ( I doubt it)
