Nano has finally arrived at the showrooms of TATA motors. Has anyone got there hands on this baby machine? I called up the dealership in bangalore (Prerna & Manipal Motors) only to hear that the test drives are not available for NANO !
:deadhorse |
Saw it at my dealer. Looks very good. Will drop in at the dealer sometime next week.

As for a rear hatch that does not open, why the hell would I want to open the rear hatch when I cant put anything in the rear, because my storage space is in front and THAT can be opened? |
Awesome clap: This had me in splits for a while! And an exceptionally valid point too.
Does Nano have a handbrake?

Is that a valid question? I'm not sure if you're being serious or funny. It even has a spare wheel! and a steering!
Saw it at the Concorde Motors Hyderabad. Had gone there for something else, seeing the large crowd around and everyone talking about it, couldn't resist myself joining in. After much jostling, I got a chance to sit in the rear and in the front. Enough space for 4 decent sized adults. The quality of the various components looked good as well.
But the icing on the cake was when while coming out this guy who was there with his wife (on a old bike) told me with a glint in his eye that they booked the Nano and that "Now Finally we can aspire to have a car and be safe on the roads". Was quite touched hearing him.
All Kudos to Ratan Tata and his team at TM who made Nano a reality.
But the pitfall to the whole Nano saga is that dealer staff have started treating customers for other cars also with disdain.
Yes milecruncher, there are many dreams will become true like that couple.
3 cheers to the legendary & visionary Ratan Tata.clap:
Even i was baffled by the Nano car and its technology...Imagine a Wiper wash nozzle intergrated into the wiper blade..how ingenious.

As a matter of fact that technology has been there for quite a long time in TATA 407 and 709.:)

This is going to spoil the rear seats big time+ working space is so constrained, wonder how anyone will be able to work on the engine. |
The engine will be worked on the same way the OMNI engine is worked on. From teh inside by removing the seat and a cover...and FYI OMNI is a top5 seller for 20 years nonstop.
My old man has saved some money from his pension. He now wants a Nano. I could have booked for him online but it wouldn't be as much fun. So I got a form from a TATA-FIAT dealer (the one I bought my Palio from). The booking (read payment) will be done next week. Hope for a longish queue there.

I too had a 'peek a boo' session on the Nano today at Concorde---I had gone to that building as I had some work at SBI upstairs.
There was a crowd today too. I sat both in the front and the rear, and I must confess that the space is more than in a WagonR. Only thing missing however is luggage space.
The car looks cute in person. The height of the car is almost as high as a WagonR. I like the side profile--especially the way the front portion curves downwards---a real futuristic look. The rear however has an Indicaish look--but a bit narrower and taller.
Good review, :thumbs up
looks like other manufacturers:Frustrati are on the anvil,
Looking forward to test drive after reading this review.
Suprisingly, the NANO has been getting good reviews from everyone... can't wait to test drive that car...
Also, I just came across some interestig cost cutting facts about NANO on wikipedia:
- The Nano's boot does not open, instead the rear seats can be folded down to access the boot space.
- It has a single windscreen wiper instead of the usual pair.
- Some exterior parts of it are glued together, rather than welded.
- It has no power steering.
- Its door opening lever was simplified.
- It has 3 nuts on the wheels instead of the statutory 4 nuts.
If the boot cannot be opened, can't we see its engine ?

I guess, the rear seats fall down and that’s how access the engine.
