INTRO:

As a student,at one point of time you come across a situation where you need a car.The bike serves a different purpose while the car serves different.A car has so many plus points, take many people and go for ride, shopping, shelter from rain etc.many many points.

With these points I and my sis sat with dad for a hefty long discussion, the main point of being, "We need a Car".our defense was that since our family car the I20 Asta is out everyday,we require a second city car whose main intention will be city driving, shopping(important since my sis and mom are involved!!lol)occasional drives around the city.

after a tough six months when everything came together, finances moods,luck,planets..everything,it was time to buy a new car.

The biggest condition was it should be a maruti.Fine.So my initial two options were the alto K10 and the A-Star.When I presented my options to the higher command, the HC suggested something different.the HC had seen the new Wagon-R.My uncle had the old wagon-R.a different picture came in my mind.sort of negative about the wagonR.will the new one be same as the old one?

After heavy research on Tbhp, chat with friends, lot of visits to the showroom and a TD,it was decided the new WagonR will be the perfect fit.

And today he completes exactly 2 months with us.So its time I put it under some initial tests and present my review.

I am compiling stuff at the moment. So give me some time.:D

Also in the photography front I am in the learning stage. So there will be some mistakes in the shots.I am trying my best to improvise every step.

In the mean time I present you sort of a teaser.(hope mods dont have a problem).

Delivery day:

The executive promised us to give the car on Sunday. On sunday we received a call that the car is ready and you can come and pick it up.

We went and there he was standing in the corner of the petrol pump, all accessories fitted.

The executive came and escorted us to the first office floor for the paperwork.he put forward the papers and bills and asked for the signature.we asked to check the car first to which he was like it can happen later.smelling a rat,we put our foot down and demanded car check first. So hastily we went downstairs towards the car.and this is where my horror nightmare came true.upon investigation:

1.accumulated dust on the entire car.not slight but a layer.
2.fingerprints on the windows and on the back glass.
3.back number plate screw was loose to an extent.
4.huge sticky blotch on the hood.
5.light scratch on the left body front door.(it was though not a body scratch)
6 and the most devastating..a deep scratch on the left headlight.it was not on the surface.it had gone deep.the plastic was craved.:Frustrati

Both me and my father lost our cool.my father demanded is whether this is how they deliver their cars to their customers?we asked how come the scratch on the headlight came up?the executive had a blank face.why the car was dusty?why the fingerprints?no answer.the executive blamed sunday rush for it.Common if you cant handle sunday rush why deliver on sunday then?

We demanded that the headlight plastic cover unit be changed.he went inside and after sometime came out telling that its not a manufacturing defect.ofcourse its not a manufacturing defect, its a showroom defect.a mini argument came up between us.he was just not ready to budge.do note that the scratch is not visible at a first glance.once you actually go near the headlight and start looking deep is where you see the scratch.we decided to look at the matter later and escalate to the customer care maruti.

he said that he will bring the car back in the showroom and clean it.I demanded that she be washed not cleaned.he did some ummm..aaa..things and went to check things.while he was gone I did a quick check and found that the service washing bay was filled to the brim.for my car to join the washing it will take another hour or so.So I decided let it be and will wash myself later.I told him that atleast remove the fingerprints, the stickyness blotch and wipe the dust. But at this point also, almost 45mins had gone but nobody touched the car.the paperwork was done.everything was done.but the job assigned wasnt.Again after 45mins of wait,my father went down and this time we created sort of a commotion.not big a mini one.we played our customer trick card of this is how we are treated and stuff, luckily his senior was there only.he inquired what was the problem and upon knowing got hold of our executive, scolded him for making us wait, and demanded to him that he stick near my car,not move a muscle and ensure the car is cleaned according to the customer's requirement.

At 12:45PM finally he was ready and we filled petrol through coupon given by showroom and went home, sort of disgusted.the hyundai experience was different, this was different.no photos,no ribbons,no puja and sweets.nothing at the showroom.Didnt expect the delivery to go this way.

Mods: Please bear and give me some time to make things together.photos and text.even if you lock the thread,I can PM you to reopen it right?thanks.

Brilliant pic and a lovely teaser man. Post some nice snaps quick.

Happy motoring and drive safe.

congrats on getting the car.
waiting for more pics and the review man, that teaser surely points towards your skills with the camera.
dealership experience should have been better, increase in customers should make them work hard instead of coming up with excuses.

Thanks Superboy.

The showroom is one of the oldest maurti showrooms in Pune.So taking that into consideration,I was expecting excellent delivery day.But got the reverse.

I had a different vision of wagonr. One of my relatives had a wagonr. I had went to Mumbai by that and I still remember while on the expressway the inner dashboard was rattling past 90kmph. Wagonr was essentially targeted as a wagon. Like a sister to the Omni. A tall boy which had a nice height, had space inside and could carry people. Not like Omni, but certainly say 5 decent individuals. He was the same design which maruti Suzuki did some minor tweaks some stickering but keeping everything roughly the same. I always referred to the wagonr as a “scale patti” drawing concept. The old one did not had many curves to it. It was a proper rectangular design of a basic wagon. To my observation many doctors and senior people used to buy the wagonr. May be because of the height.
But recently M&S decided not to go the hero Honda way of putting stickers on the existing product. Rather they thought to revamp the platform and change the way people look at the wagonR. So they introduced a new handsome hunk in town. They made sure the design was right and fresh. I feel that maruti suddenly realized to portray the car to the youth also. It will not only be a senior citizen or a doctor car but a car for the young generation too. And I must say that they have to an extent nailed it on the youth too. So after 2 months of driving him, I will be presenting my own personal review of the new wagonR. This review will consist mainly my own observations and viewpoints which I know some will not agree upon.

So lets start with the exterior.

The Blue Eyed Boy Initial Review-WagonR!-wagonr-exterior-final-copy.jpg

To sum it up in one line, the car looks tall, feels tall and IS tall. When you look at it from the outside you realize that indeed he is a tallboy. The dimensions of 3595mm 1475mm and a respectable height of 1700mm with roof rails he is definitely a tall guy.

The front:

The front has the smiling grill to greet you. I specially like how car manufacturers these days are inclining towards giving cars a happy feel. Smile is one emotion which connects each and every being.

The Suzuki logo is in the front center. The grill actually is not entirely transparent. The left side is an open one. But the right side is partially blocked behind which I think the horn sits. It seems a little weird not to have an entire see through grill. There is space to put the fog lights.

The headlight:

This is one of those features which differentiate a car from the other. This car has a nice squarish tear drop headlight. And the size dominates the front look. They have given an aggressive look to the front and the headlights take the cake. The headlights also have the blue tinged parking light in built. This blue tinge is what names it as the blue eyed boy. This is a very nice addition but the floro bulb inside overpowers the blue tinge so the end result is you get a more floro less blue light. Maruti should try to fit a blue bulb inside for proper blue eye effect. The headlights are decently powerful and do their job.

The rear:

The rear again has that trademark wagonr rectangular design. But this time curves exist here too. The main feature of the rear is the huge glass and the chrome wagonR strip which sits above the number plate. The taillights are also big and clear to see. They don’t seem overly done and fit the profile perfectly.

Lxi logo to the right.

The number plate sits on a two piece sponge to dampen the noise from the potholes etc.
The wheels look a little bit puny but its not a major hindrance.

The car thus through its tall dimensions and a dash of curves with the aggressive look does try to take your attention and I am sure many do get attracted to it. So definitely he is a hunk among the tallboys. The design concept and build of the exterior is well done and I don’t find any particular problems related to the exterior. So a good job on the exterior. Score for the exterior.

Interior and engine coming next.
