MY FB RED ALTO K10-true test in hills of SHIMLA

HI everyone, most of you might have already been through the official test drive report of alto k10,but still as an enthusiast i would like to provide my reviews in real tough conditions of shimla- the car is an overall winner!!

Likes
everyone knows!!!-the power, acceleration, silent ride etc ,etc
ACTUALLY the car is a dream come true for alto lovers who ALMOST admired the 800 cc alto for its overall qualities, but craved for that grunt of the LEGENDARY VXi1.1 -so here THE WAIT IS OVER-i shall keep posting more as i discover further!
looks awesome from front
Rubber is good, much better cornering- i discovered that on chandigarh shimla highway, where the tyres were just not making any noise while negotiating curves even at 80!!(the old one did it at 55 to 60.

Dislikes
SAME OLD DASH...
SIDE PROFILE-LOOKS LIKE DONALD DUCK's NOSE at the front end
REAR-JUST different NOT better
RATTLING is STILL THE SAME!!

at the showroom also there is my older one,2005 std

Congrats on the Alto K10. Since you owned the prior version of the ALTO, how does the build quality compare. Would you do a comparison between the old Alto and the K10 for the visible differences in the build quality.

Enjoy many more happy miles with the pocket rocket.

thanks a ton nkrishnap! the build quality feels better, the low nvh itself gives a mature feel to the engine, only the dash makes you feel being in the same old car,but the moment you turn the ignition, its amazing,,,,,,,BUT I CANT REALLY CONVINCE A GUY RIDING THE BEST OF THE BUILD QUALITIES!!! FIAT OWNERS!!! u know what yesterday again i was in showroom, and there was this sx4 ready for delievery, and when i closed the door,it sounded like MINE (k10),THAT SMOOTH THUD of FIATS is something maruti guys are far off from(THATS A CONFESSION),

Keeping the lesser noise levels aside, the rest of build quality is just marginally better,i haven't even got keyless entry fitted because the old car had rattling all around because of those autocop guns and metal wires striking against the door plastics, just managing with the manual central lock, even a friend of mine has the same problems with his vxi1.1.the car was quiet untill he got remote locks and rear power windows

here guys my k10 with my all time favourite 800,

Comparisons With The Old Vxi1.1

LOOKS
-purely subjective opinion
-i find the front better, and increased length appealing, not rear-
the older 1.1 looked aggressive with the rear wiper assembly

interior-
,K10-scores with cluster,steering wheel
BUT 1.1 scores with that rear wiper switch! and tray below the steering like the wagon r a far innovative feature so many years back
MARUTI HAD BEEN little too casual this time

why couln't they provide a rear defogger????????!!!!!!!
the alto xcite has it

NOW THE PERFORMANCE

1.k10 feels much peppier the moment you release the clutch(even more than i10 kappa)
2. gradually she performs like the 1.1 4 pot marutis uptil around 2000 rpm
and then s you cross 3000-WHOA!!! MUCH MORE FREE REVVING THAn the 1.1.guess the revving part is the edge k-series has. but definitely more noisy..

3.the best part is the GEAR ratios-all the gears are well powered not like i10 kappa where one has to push hard in second gear to get the 80 horses running(trust me guys thats the story in shimla) here peak power doesnt matter what matters is the low rev range perforamnce and k-series SCORES!!

that was the reason i enjoyed driving 800 more than alto 800 in shimla despite alto having 10 horses extra
4.better tyres-THE TEAM BHP EXPERTS ARE RIGHT THAT SHE IS UNDERTYRED but thats only at speeds above 100 which is a dream in shimla!!
for this place and daily usage they are perfect!

CONS_ONLY IF YOU ARE OBSESSED
1.one might find 3 pot little crude than the elder 4 pot brother
2.altok10 cant pull up nicely from 20kmph in 5th gear_the older1.1 can still do it-but thats being fussy i guess!!

Congrats on the buy drjumbo!!! Are the tyre size upgraded in K10 compared to the old one?. The old one with low profile tyre creates a hell lot of road noise. your car with its excellent color and presence would look great with good set of alloys.

the dealers have become clever, they have limited our options of buying music players from outside, they say the warranty would get void

Hey dude, it looks simply terrific! Do you have a water hose an own/private parking space facility? If yes, then do make it a point to wash it with the water hose and special spray. DO NOT wipe it with the dirty cloth! Microfibre is the way to go! I too love the brick red color. My friend just took the delivery of a Wagon R Lxi, whereas I bought a Desert Brown A-star Lxi. Had I gone for alto, then for sure it would have been brick red. The alloys also look great! It seems you have upgraded the tires, they too suit well. nizeeee! I also loved the blackout film that you have put on the B Pillar. Do post some pics of the interiors! and the engine and boot.

First congrats on the car,the colour looks very good on the car and so does the alloys!

Your photography is very good, especially in the last post.Good to know that you are satisfied with the K10,becuase we have booked a K10 too(VXi,sunlight copper) which will be delivered sometime next week

In his test drive GTO has mentioned the gearshift to be a bit rubbery and not upto mark, but it looks like it has enough low down torque for continous stop-start traffic(where our car will spend 90% of the time).

Have you finished your run in period? How much would you suggest should be the run in period?

And we have no intentions of upgrading the tyres soon,i hope the OEM tyres are adequate.

Oh and what about FE figures?

Do update this thread, and happy driving!

THANKS bro,FIRST congrats to you for buying A-star,it was actually my first choice!!! i had decided red vxi and even planned the mods!! but my father's colleague filled up his ears against the a-star,some useless clauses like boot space n stuff, which just didnt bother me because the boot had to be for the woofer!!!!also the build quality is far better in a-star than alto,
anyways about my car
1.this is my new house in pics, its aroung 17 kms from main shimla city and hospital(where we are employed),so we go only once a week(thats why the alto!!or else it would have been d-zire!!
but i would definitely go for the hose and microfibre, and even i never wipe my car with dry dusty clothes, either i wash or keep it dirty, but never the dusting parts,IT TAKES AWAY THE SHINE!thats how i have kept my 800 brand new for 3 years(check it out in 800 mod thread in last pages -its with black alloys)
2.no tyre upgrades, its the LIP of the alloys thats doing all the wonders!!! makes them look around 20 mm broader,ha ha.
3.thanks for the blackout, ikept it only till the b-pillars,avoided removing the rubbers and getting the whole window panes blackened,(recently i teared one of my 800 rear doors rubber while doing it.
shall soon post the interiors

THANKS A LOT!!! AND same to you for taking a wise and PRACTICAL decision.
about the pics they were previously taken with cel and later with cam

the gearshift is just fine-precise and sterdy.about the rubbery feel, its actually the floor console that is the problem,it makes noises
on throwing gears backwards-2nd,4th,reverse.the maruti guys have not worked to mate it properly
definitely GTO was right in comparing it to a-star's-which is perfect-no floor console twitches and once you know that its just superficial problem(not exactly a PROBLEM) then you,ll be comfortable
-low end torque is definitely good, better sustainability than the k10 powered estilo and wagon r
iam still in my run in period-there are no official cut off for run in period,i remember from my old alto it to be 2500-3000.
but the k10 has synthetic engine oil which means more protection to the piston and hence delayed adjustments!!
or
TOTALLY other way around
-push her hard,no worries because the synthetic oil will protect it!!
jokes apart you should try what iam doing,it worked well in my older alto and 800
1.for the first 1000-1500 kms keep the rpm below 2000-2500
2.next 1000 kms dont cross 3000rpm
then gradually you,ll find your engine opening up
K10 is powerfull enough to please you in city traffic with ac on well below 3000 rpm.

stock tyres are perfect,i10 also rides on 155,so does k 10,unless you are gearing up for some hooliganism

FE is same as old alto-WHICH IS AMAZING for this much grunt!!
it would definitely increase over time

Hi buddy,
Congrats on your rocket hatch and it really looks smashing in the brick red colour. The tires and rims do add character to the car. And do you mind sharing your OTR and how much did it cost for the Nippon HU?
BTW, does all the K10s come with synthetic oil (right from factory) or you changed to synthetic?

Man, the location of your house is as beautiful as your Alto K10! Shimla is a dream destination for many of us here in Goa. The second last photo of your Alto near the trees briefly captures the beauty of Shimla.

I own an Alto 800 LXI (2008) and I drive very sedately. I have almost always got a mileage of 19-21 kmpl during these past 2 years.

I'm in the process of buying a new car. My first love would have been the K10 VXI, but I did not want to take a big depreciation hit for my current Alto (I would had got a maximum of Rs 1.76-2 L) and upgrade to the K10. Especially when it has performed without a single problem, given me great FE and has willingly taken me to Goa-Pondicherry-Goa (2000 kms) and a recent Goa-Mumbai-Goa (1555 kms) trip.

Then again, I did not want to have two Altos (800 and K10) at the same time. After many test drives, I have finally shortlisted the I10 1.2 Magna. Hopefully, I will own the two best selling hatches from Maruti and Hyundai.

All the best and may you have many enjoyable moments in the Alto K10. And if we ever do reach Shimla, be sure that I would get in touch with you, as it is always useful to gain knowledge of the city and its culture from a local.

Regards,
Melvyn

Thanks for appreciating,i didnt have an idea till my first service that there was synthetic oil in it,k10 k12 both have,a friend of mine told me the same with his i10 kappa that the service was just the checkup and wash,i thought the hyundai guyed shooved him as they had also troubled him twice before for body repair works!! its in the manual also, first change at 10000 and they have specified certain synthetic types.

nippon traded as MGA was for 8400 bucks,

i dont mind sharing, but what exactly is it that you are looking for in my OTR
