Tata Indica E-V2 CR4 LS

Quick First Drive: Tata Indica E-V2 CR4 LS-dsc00013.jpg
white shade of LS.

Estimated price ex showroom Delhi:
  • LS CR4: Rs. 4,45,000
  • LX CR4: Rs. 4,65,000
Quick Driving impressions:
  • Covered some 15 kms from stockyard to dealer in stop go city traffic.
  • The engine sounds now much more refined and smoother than the earlier DiCOR 1.4, though noise is very much present when cold.
  • High revving is pretty fun and torque is instant for city drive.
  • The new greige interiors are much better than the old coal bin interiors, though hard plastics are still an eyesore.
  • The car is overall high on utility and targeted at fleet operators.
  • Driveability is decent for daily abuse.
  • Ride has improved and handling feels a bit tighter with 14" rims.
  • 4 colours-white, silver, apple green and orange.
  • Launch soon, date not known.
  • Looks much more cleaner and better than the 2004-2010 V2.
  • Dashboard still high and driver seat low. No height adjust or tilt steering in any variant.
  • If the said pricing is true, then it may raise eyeballs as the figo too starts at 4.5 lakhs.
  • Engine caliberated to operate on low rpms for maximising fuel efficiency, so don't expect it to be a rocket.
  • More when I get a chance to do a complete TD, donno when.
Enjoy the pics of the afterwash.

Short concise review Sid. I believe the prices will be little lower than the estimated prices. At 4.45 lakhs, it looses its VFM usp to other player in the market.

Thanks Sid for the update. How did you find the interiors? Now it looks like a 'no nonsense' approach. But any difference in finish etc?

Thanks sidindica. This one looks exactly like the 1st gen indica but with minor cosmetic changes.
The interior quality looks bad and looks very prone to rattling. All in all a nice attempt from TATA. But frankly there is a lot of competition and i dont think this one will sell.

Don't expect figo levels of finish. The interior colour is at least "good", Its a no nonsense approach.
Perhaps the car is for those who want a basic, no frills, full of utility diesel car with maximum fuel efficiency and withstand abuse.

Exactly what i am looking at-a car that can give excellent mileage and has decent reliability-i am planning to start practice soon and will be covering several hospitals within a radius of 40km!!

are the tyres bit narrow?or are they the same size as in old indica?

165/65 R 14 is the size.

@sidindica - Thanks for heeding to audience demand :).

Does it "Look prone to rattling"? - Could you elaborate on what are those interior parts?

This is why People perceive Tata as a low quality brand. The car that reaches the masses is one with abysmal quality and worthless in terms of finish. They may come out with Pixel/Aria but for a common man the brand is built by the elements he notices frequently. Thanks Sid for the quick review. Any leads for the electric Indica?

No engine immobilizer, Rear Demister, Rear Wipe+wash? on any model?

Door pockets should have been modified for holding 1L water bottles.

IMO the cost saving on eliminating wheel arch plastic claddings must have been used by TATA to improve plastic features.

IMHO Rs.465,000 price is too high for 12 year old chasis and features offered.
25kmpl CR$ engine ad is used to milk customer:deadhorse

If the prices are correct then they are too close to the entry level variant of Vista and Figo. I don't think even the features differ too much since ac and power steering are standard on the Vista across variants. Wonder if it makes sense to go for this instead of the Vista!

If only they put this engine in the Vista and price it at their current Vista TDi + 10K, and advertise it as 25KMPL!

Sid - Were you able to check ‘Auto Drive Assist' feature?? Any review or comment you would like to share?? Will it be helpful in daily city drive??

No..it was just a normal "short drive" in normal traffic, like normal commuting. Didn't get a chance to test all those "features."

Nice short and simply review Sid.
Bdw did ever get a chance to drive older version of indica , if yes then is there is any significance difference in the drive if you could make out between the old one and new one.
Also the rear looks a bit different then the older ones isn't it ? May be the bumpers are bit different i may be wrong also.
The instrument cluster also looks neat.

Tata can't seem to get over their old workhorse.Keeps it reviving from the dead in one form or the other..! Looks promising though.
