What have been the overall costs till date ? Servicing etc.
What kind of FE figures are you getting ?
Hi Guderian,
Spent around 12 K at 15 K km service. That includes Oil, Diesel/Cabin and Oil filters, pair of wipers.
I spent more money on accessories rather than servicing.
X Trail is reliable piece of Japanese engineering.
Done wheel balancing and alignment twice (spent 2k)
Have contract for interior cleaning and body polishing for a year (2.7 K)

FE is around 11 kmpl. City use gives 10.

I have removed Race-chip after using for around 5k(it dropped FE to below 8)
Also I noticed more engine noise.

Expressway cruising at 120 kph gave FE of 12 kmpl.

Recently installed damping sheets on all doors which dramatically improved sound quality.

Regards

Hi Desai-Saheb,
That's quite some bit of useful information.
The 15K service charges (minus the wipers) looks a little expensive eh ? What is the service interval of the X-Trail ? Every 5k KMs or 10K KMs ?
FE looks good to my mind.

Good thing that you removed the race chip - as personally I have never been in favour of performance enhancing chips/boxes or mapping as I think it destabilises other subsystems in the vehicle. Knocks it out of harmony.
I speak after an experiment a friend & I did on his Scorpio sometime ago with a box. He removed it after three months. He had to put in a K&N filter too to match the additional air 'gulp' requirements created by the box. FE had a massive fall not really commensurating (in terms of the thrill and joy !) with the 20BHP additional power he got in return. I am sure in the long run it would have impacted the engine/gear box etc.

Wishing you many, many more delightful miles with the X-Trail.

Hi Guderian,
Service interval is every 15k.
I do oil top-up every 5k (its around 500 ml)
Synthetic oil & costly diesel filter makes it little expensive.

Nissan X Trail. Updated 61k kms-img2011120700027.jpg

After completing 26k and 2k trip to kolhapur-goa XTrail gone trough interior cleaning & body polishing.

I had a extra box of damping sheets, which I bought for Swift.
There is no vibrations in doors with loud music as in case of Swift, so I never wanted to install in X Trail.
Finally, after polishing I decided to do it.

There is good improvement in low frequency music.
Installation of sub now seems worth the money spent.
One box contains 20 sheets,I used 16 in four doors & boot-lid.
Cost per box-6 k.

Hi Raosaheb,

Thanks for the great review. I think you are the only active X-Trail owner on Team Bhp. I may get myself one of these as it is just the perfect AWD daily drive available. Price is the biggest barrier so I am looking for a used one. However, hardly any good used ones available. The problem with getting a new one is that the 2014 version is around the corner and if it is going to be CKD, it will completely kill the resale value of the current version. But , I guess this is a car that can be kept trouble free for 10+ years so resale shouldn't be that much of a concern if I keep it for a while. Besides, I somehow prefer the older boxy shaped SUVs to the feminine ones that are the fad these days.

I hope I can wrangle a few lakhs off a new one before the refreshed one has been launched.

Have you thought of any tyre upgrades, as 215 seems to be very skinny for this size/power vehicle.

Pleased to know about your interest in X Trail.
Yes, its one of the best in its class but suffers due to CBU pricing and lack of brand awareness.

My views about your observations
- I am also fan of boxy designs, bit disappointed with new design concept of Nissan.
- Recent conversation with Nissan official points towards higher pricing for 2014 model as all bells & whistles including intelligent ride control will be offered.
-If you are looking for used one, may get from Banglore at around 17 lacs (3 year old- seen couple of them on net)
-Nissan India is importing only once ordered. Last year they were offering hefty discount around 2.5 lacs. They almost have cleared their stock.
-Due to steep price there is good demand for 2-3 year old cars. I have open offer from dealer as his younger brother is keen to have one. Nowdays my daily drive is 520 d and at one point wanted to sell X Trail but there was big NO from juniors.

I already have changed tires (235/65- 17)
Better grip and slight improvement in ride quality.

Pictures taken during last trip to Kolhapur.
I always long drives in X Trail than BM.

If anyday I change my mind to sell my beauty I will definitely PM you first

Hi!

Planning to look at the Koleos (used!) or Mitsubishi Outlander (used)next year if everything works out on the financial front. A couple of queries as maot of the mechanicals of Koleos are common with Nissan:-

1. How do you find the AT gearbox? Is it a conventional AT with torque convertor or CVT?
2. How effective is the "Auto" mode of 4x4?
3. Main headlight is Bi-xenon. What is the large round lamps on the innerside of the bi-xenons?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, many of the mechanicals are shared between Koleos & X Trail.
Still gearbox ratios and engine tuning is much different. I have driven Koleos, AT gearbox response is not satisfactory also acceleration is bit slow comparing X Trail.
Koleos has better ride comparing X Trail, also more body roll.

1) X Trail AT is 6 speed conv box, not CVT. Though not as responsive as say DSG, it's fantastic.
2)Auto mode is good on wet curvey roads. It corrects understeer by giving more power to rear wheels. It's quite enjoyable when driving on ghats in monsoon.
3)These are pilot lights. Bi xenons are very powerful and have very wide throw hence I didn't installed extra driving lights.
