At Saboo village and house -- contd...



We were hungry and we had a genuine Ladakhi breakfast that day - bread, honey, Ladakhi and normal tea and garden fresh apples.


The main prayer room - each everything was explained to us as we moved around the house

Roof joists or the horizontal timbers that run across between the tops of the walls, characteristically left exposed on the inside, support the roof deck that’s paved with adobe brick and rammed earth.

This is the glassroom, where everyone gathers for sunlight and warmth during the winter season - this becomes the main room during the cold months.




And now we move outside and soon we have the juiciest garden fresh apples.

And then back to the house for a final round of tea


It was around 5 p.m. we said goodbye and what an unique experience it was!



So the original plan on Oct 10, 2010, was the monastery roundup starting with Hemis, but an unexpected fantastic detour took the complete day. We reached Leh by evening and end of our that day's activities.

All in all 10 days have gone and with all the unexpected diversions, we were quite a bit behind schedule. But tomorrow is a big day - we have got the permits of all - from Pangong to Hanle via Man-Merak and from Hanle to Tso Moriri and then via Tso-Kar to Leh again through Tanglang la. Its a big loop of 3 nights and 4 days.

Absolutely right.

Stuck in a swamp at 5100mts above MSL is very ugly, not something you would welcome.

Best in case of 2WD is to have two vehicles following at 10-20 meters distance of each other. In case one does find a sand trap, the other vehicle can rescue, and then alternate track can be chosen.

Thats a good advice. Getting stuck in a swamp at 16k feet with a cold night to spend there itself - that's too much of an adventure!

Recently I visited with 5 of my friends to Laddakh and please believe me it is heaven out there!!!We were for like 4 days there..And eating maggi and having tea in such climate is just bliss...

Oct 11, 2010, we leave Leh on a clear early morning for the one and only Pangong, the first halt for a 3 night 4 day big loop of a trip. For all details about kms and else, please follow those links of other travelogues. This is just a photologue.


Soon we go past the monasteries and the lone lama to take the road to Chang la.

















And we are at Chang la and it is picture time for the jawans and us.






And then we move ahead, it is cold and windy but still a bright day on the side of Chang la

And the journey continued towards Pangong





And we would be going to Chusul and Hanle, but via Pangong, Man, Merak, Tsaga, i.e., along the Pangong Lake



And the road continues among the mighty mountains.

And finally at around 4 pm we approach, Pangong. Numerous breaks between journeys took its time but again it is the journey also that must not be hurried in these lands.

We reached Pangong past 4 pm and with fading light, it was still magical. We will be staying overnight in the rooms over here, no luxury tents around and just another group of tourists other than us in mid October 2010.
















































All the tiredness is gone as one watches the blue expanse of water surrounded by barren mountains of all hues and shades. It is super-cold outside, a brief walk in night after dinner and we go fast to sleep. It is another super interesting day tomorrow - we go beside all along the Pangong for our journey to Hanle via Man, Merak , Tsaga and Chusul.

Must be something wrong here, but still do clarify. 4 days in Ladakh, what was itinerary like?

Some of my friends hard pressed for leave ask me for a schedule, and I say a minimum of 10 days is required.

Pangong is indeed magical. One can never get bored of ladakh threads despite the fact that we have seen so many in this forum.

Doing Ladakh is one herculian task and writting a detailed log like this is another.

The pics of Pangong are simply fantabulous. Great perspectives and vividness. The Safari's looking cool standing on the beach. From the pics, the sand seems pretty well packed, was it? Asking cause I've heard coupla horror stories of vehicles getting stuck on the Pangong beach.

Whenever I see pics of Pangong, I always go back to the day when my Esteem's clutch had failed me after crossing Pagal and we had to turn back, when the lake was just a few Km away. *sigh*

Also the interaction with the locals really looks & sounds amazing. They are such great hosts that ends up making you feel like a King.
