Well yes, I believe an SUV has to be 4x4. Too bad most companies do not offer 4x4 in base models now.
A 4x4 gives you the freedom to go to lots of places.
That said, you can invest in snow chains, and that will make your fortuner ultra capable in snow.

Well thanks for the wonderful advice on snow chains, will have to learn about that from you. In regard to 4x4 Fortuner the price difference is not much from 4x2. I think it was just 70k only. My father insisted on taking 4x2 keeping in view the FE. As we hardly go off-road. We were one of the first customers of the 2012 model, I thank god that I cancelled the Jetta that we had booked, as soon as we saw the new model at Expo 2012. BTW Tanveer do let me know when you have a meet next. I live in Hauz Khas and look forward to get some tips from you.
