Re: A Greener Weekend in an unexplored forest - GAVI, Kerala

Hey TRTRAJ, great travelogue with stunning scenery, that's the Monsoon magic in the Western Ghat / Coastal areas of the southern platue. I think you have shown us a new destination to add to the list of must see. Were the Elephant Bones in some Forest Centre / Museum ? Also are the kids in your last snap holding Currency ? Some of them appear to be of quiet a large denomination, where ever did they get them from ?
However once again beautiful travelogue.
Manmohan.

Hi Manmohan, Thanks for the comment. The Bones which are displayed is been collected locally inside the forest, They do not have a proper Museum. But, this one is a collectibles which they had kept for visitors next to the lunch hall. And the kids in picture are tribes whom do not know anything outside their world, Few tribes go out to the market to buy Rice and dhall, We had given them some money which might help them (definitely not to encourage them to beg, And of course they didn't ask for money at all)

Re: A Greener Weekend in an unexplored forest - GAVI, Kerala

trtraj,

Excellent travelogue and amazing pictures I am hooked to it. I am planning to go to Kerala in Diwali vacation from Mumbai. Onc of my friend suggested me this place. Now looking at the snaps I feel like I should go right away. Shared this wonderful photographs with my family and got amazing response from them.
Just wanted to ask you few things,
1. Is it safe to take childrens around 3-5yrs age ( My son is 3.5yrs).
2. Any good places in Gavi or nearby to stay overnite (Is there any forest lodge or any hotel inside forest)?
Many Thanks.

Welcome Bhpian, Thanks for your comment, about your questions

yes, it is safe for kids if you are not taking them for trekking, I had mentioned in my previous post (same thread) that you can also opt for a jeep safari which would cost a little more than your trekking. Thekkady would be an ideal place for staying where you find lots and lots of hotels, And it has a Periyar wildlife sanctuary where you can visit, boat and sight elephants.

trtraj - Awesome photos, mate! The photos alone will prompt any reader to rate this thread 5*. I don't know how many times me & my friends have planned a trip to this place and had to cancel it due to some reason or other. Just recommended this thread to my fellow travellers. May be this time we will go there for sure!
PS: Rated 5*.

Awesome pictures and mindblowing greeneries. Thekkady has been in my to do list for so long and I am still waiting to visit the place. I will surely include Gavi too when I visit Thekkady. Thanks for sharing it here. Superb.

Amazing pictures; many of them could easily win a photography contest hands down.

Any idea whether Gavi is still open for vistors?
And one more query which I have is: Is the road which you took on the jeep, motorable by small hatches like the Figo?

Thank you very much. The GAVI information center can be reached on 04869 223270, Yes taking an hatch never a problem (i personally made it with Figo with wife and kids two month ago)

No four wheel drive required here. be cautious when you are getting down from the car (not advisable because of wild animals and leeches)
