Re: Weekend camping at Salter Lake - Near Amby Valley, Lonavla

Just Awesome !!

Looks like you guys had fun.
Nice wood fire. Did some camping in the past, originally started out with coal BBQ's , but soon got fed up with the hassle of getting the coals to a glowing point and soon switched to a more convenient Gas BBQ.

Couple of quick queries
Are those Tarp poles available at Decathlon ?
How did you manage for toilets ?

Thats one weekend well spent doc, photos are superb. Taking children along on camping will teach them how to enjoy with sync to nature. Children these days are far from nature, busy with their daily grind. Its sad to see how people litter where ever they go, its nice a thought to clean up surroundings. Involving children in such an activity will give responsible future citizens to this country.

What tarp poles? Are you talking about the awning?

Find a bush, dig a small hole behind it and go with toilet paper. Do your job, fill it back and wash your hands.

Or hold it till you reach a restaurant on your way home.

And when you travel with Ravi, he has his portable potty with some NASA tech where you poop in a bag and the powder combines your waste to some biodegradable stuff and you just throw it the bag in a regular bin without any issues of smell.

Honestly, I always thought poop was bio degradable though and a natural fertiliser and just go in the open!

Re: Weekend camping at Salter Lake - Near Amby Valley, Lonavla

That seems like a great camping trip. I particularly loved how the Pajero has been accessorised with the attached awning and the external thrash can. The drone shots were amazing. Its great that you have a group of like minded friends and family who take part in the camping getaways.
It is really a shame to see the littering - especially the plastic kind which is everywhere nowadays. Well done you guyz for clearing up after yourselves and thinking of cleaning the mess that others have left there. You are also setting a good example for gen-next.
Two questions - one, do we need a camping permit or such type from the authorities to camp in places?
two, what did you do for the call of nature? - the 'old pit in the ground behind the bushes and sing aloud when using ? ( I have done this one when camping in the Okavango delta in Botswana)

keep traveling, keep camping and thanks once again for sharing.

Cheers!

We were in private land. If we go to village land we usually talk to the Sarpanch and order some type of food from the local village household so that they have some form of compensation. We even ask them to collect wood for us.

Yes the poles for the awning.
They are generally referred to as Tarp Poles but quite expensive in India.

In AU I saw them for as less as $10 each.

The awnings sold here come with the poles embedded. Infact, they fold into the awning itself.

I added an awning to my Pajero, and it has the poles folded into the setup when not in use.
