Birding - My new found passion

I had a Canon S3IS & a Canon Rebel XTi. Sadly, the entire kit was stolen & I was heart-broken & gave up on photography. After several years, I bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ200. It is a bridge camera & takes awesome pictures.

Then I moved to Mysuru last year. There is a open piece of land across the road from where I live, with lots of vegetation. It is home to several kinds of birds. I wanted to start shooting them, with a camera, of course.

So, took the plunge and got myself a Nikon Z6 with a 24-70 Z mount lens. Decided to splurge and also got a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500 F/5.6E ED VR lens.

Now that I am equipped, started shooting birds, butterflies & garden lizards. All pics are taken right outside my house. Now planning to expand my horizon and visit all the lakes in Mysuru, given the city is a birding paradise.

Now let the pictures do the talking

All comments & suggestions for improvements are very welcome. If there are fellow birding enthusiasts in Mysuru, would love to meet up and explore new locations.

Re: Birding - My new found passion

Today morning, the red naped Ibis made an appearance and allowed me a couple of shots, before taking off. Good start to the day. Only wish I had time to frame better.

Re: Birding - My new found passion

These little birds are getting comfortable with my presence and allow me to get closer than before & do not take off the moment they see me. It is a lot of fun.

No. All these were shot with the Nikon Z6. To be honest, I am in love with the 200-500 lens & am not shooting much with the FZ200.

Here is a pic shot with the FZ200

I think this is a juvenile Pied Bush Chat.

You may also want to explore Karanji Lake and Ranganathittu where you will surely get quite a variety of birds to snap up.

Re: Birding - My new found passion

Congratulations on your new kit & a very good start. As mentioned by Vik0728, this hobby will only grow (passion wise & equipment wise)

You might need a tripod to reduce the camera shake & to get more sharper frames. Moreover the 200-500 is quite a heavy lens for shooting hand held for long duration.
