Some more pictures of drive through forest.

Noticed at couple of places signboards reading "speed limit 40kmph wild animals crossing zone. Voialators would be prosecuted". Looks like none of them are following that. Initially at the first signboard I did tried to slow down but after seen 3 other vehicles of which 2 coming in opposite direction including an apsrtc bus which were on speed beyond 80kmph I have withdrawn the idea of maintaining 40khmp but still kept a safe speed with a lookout on either sides.

This forest is a tiger reserve, at the start of the forest there is a check post and vehicles are allowed beyond the check post only between 6am to 9pm. When I reached the first check post the person manning the gate opened the gate without asking anything and after going through forest there is another check post, I believe it is before srisailam project township, there I was asked to go to the person sitting near the checkpost office and give me details like vehicle registration number, name and place from where I was coming. After giving the details he informed me if I am returning the same day I should ensure that I am near that gate by 8:30pm.

These pictures reminds me of my several trips to Srisailam. It is one of the emptiest stretch you can ever drive on. I absolutely love the ghat section and the numerous monkey which you sight there.

All pictures from inside car or you have some others as well? Did you visit the dam and the place where you need to walk down good bunch of steep stairs to the water? Where did you stay? cost? car pictures? FE details. Lot of things missed out, update if possible.

Agree with you this is the emptiest stretch you can ever drive, I have really enjoyed a lot. My wife and kid were sleeping in the back seat and I was enjoying the drive alone.

Sorry all the pictures were from inside the car and no pictures of the car in this trip. Didnt vist the dam, thanks for reminding should make sure in next trip. Initially planned to stay overnight but there was no rush in temple and luckly finished with darshan within 20mins, reached srisailam at 12:15pm, done with darshan and lunch by 1:45pm, enquired about the distance and route to kurnool with the hotel guy, said its 180kms odd and with good road with very little bad stretch and some ghat through forest. So decided to move on to kurnool.

I use Swift Dzire VDI bought in July'08. Started with tank full of diesel, reached hyderabad with fuel indication still above empty.
Hyderabad - Srisailam 240Kms
Srisailam - Kurnool 182Kms
Kurnool - Hyderabad 224Kms
Total 646Kms
FE average of 18Kmpl with 100% AC on.

A week before the trip done with the 3rd service of my car, i.e. it crossed 10,000Kms.

Vehicles are not allowed on the dam. Guess if you know somebody you can actuall drive across the dam and save time and also some 10-15kms odd drive which you see below.

Actually to go to one end of the dam to other end you need to drive all way down to the bridge which you see in the picture below and travel across the bridge and drive up again. But its a different kind of experience and excellent views. Its worth in its own way.

Notice clearly the road on this hill which we need to drive all the way down to cross that bridge.

Drive picture from Srisailam to Kurnool via Dornala

Now the second leg of drive from Srisailam to Kurnool via Dornala. The drive till Dornala is very scenic which is worth a drive. As soon as we started from srisailam it started drizziling and rained heavly for some time.

Total distance of 182Kms, started at 2pm and reached at 5:30pm.

Before reaching dornala there is another checkpost, need to stop here and enter your vechile details along with name and place from where coming. Here the person asked to pay Rs.10 after entering the details and everyone seems to pay without asking why, so I did the same.

After dornala

Project site of underground water tunnel which is being laid from Srisailam which goes from below the tiger reserv, not sure but guess it is laid till Nalgonda.

Drive through tiger resev, this is after few kilometers from dornala this a bit lonely with some rough patches and narrow roads, also little bit of ghat section.

Lovely pics. I remember driving to Macherla and Sagar via Dornala---I think we'd turned left at a T junction after Dornala---did you turn right to go to Kurnool?

There is one decent place to stay - AP Tourism Punnami Guest House. They have decent cottages. I had pit stop there for breakfast and I saw quite a few people camping in the guest houses.

How was the road between Dornala and Kurnool? I did this stretch in July 2008 and it was very bad after Atmakur and on my way back, I took left at Dornala and drove via Nandyal.

Btw, did you check out Rock Gardens just outside Kurnool? They are awesome.

Now I remember having noticed AP Tourism Punnami Guest House before reaching Dornala on my right.

Road between Dornala and Kurnool was pretty much decent. I travelled from vijayawada to kurnool in march by bus, the road was not good at that time but now its nice. I covered the total distance of 182Kms in 3hrs 30 mins.

The Rock Gardens were really good, I got a opprotunity to visit them on my trip to Mahanandi from Kurnool. I visited them on my way back and it was almost dark, couldnt spend much time. Will try to upload some pictures later.
