Maybe the zoo folks dont feed them properly
Visitors like us are responsible for that, because we keep throwing eatables into the enclosure when ever we visit Zoos'. Now most animals are expecting food any time somebody watches them closely. The period when most animals suffer from indigestion in the Chennai Zoo is 2 days after Sankranti when almost the whole of Chennai goes on a "sight seeing expedition" with the Zoo bearing most of the brunt.

That's a good point. I do know that most of the time visitors throw food at the animals and create problems which is predominant with monkeys as they respond to the visitors but Tortoises, i didnt know they too.

We were driving for a few hundered meters and stop the car and get out to watch the next in line of animals. On second thoughts, it is better to walk through the entire zoo than take your vehicle inside ( we did it because of small kids)

When we came across an opening suddenly i was taken aback by a shrill scream and excited chanting of " Avi Mama, SherKhan, Sherkhan"

Then it struck me, the tiger is referred to that in Jungle Book

Here are some sequential pictures when the tiger came from the backside of the open area walked towards us, came near the water and then languidly walked on our right.

Avi, Nehru Zoological park looks very different to what it used to look in the early 90s. Must say, wonderful pics.
Is the toy train still on?

Yes Abhi, it is very much still on. We even took a ride in that train. They wanted Rs.250 for entire train to be booked since there were no other passengers but I negotiated and paid them 150 bucks for the same and we had the entire train to ourselves

We then moved on and my nieces were elated to spot Colonel Hathi

Good thing about this was there were 2 different types of elephants. Asian and African. The bigger ones were the africans and best part was they had a huge open space for them to freely roam around and a special area for them to feed ( Oh boy, look at their statistics)

Thereafter, we took the safari which is a ride in a bus that is like a cage as it has mesh on all sides as protection as these big cats roam about free in the space where you enter.

Its a 20 minute ride where we spotted a couple of lions crossing the path right in front of the bus and we were also lucky to spot a tiger walking along the bus.

Due to pictures taken from inside the bus, the quality ain't that great

Avi,
Nice pics from the zoo, your niece has come out great and also Rawal.
Did the yellow tiger follow its feeder? his intense gaze suggests that he is fixed on someone known to him. Your lions in the safari are deeply involved in the prelude to mating.
Regards,

After the lions we were lucky to spot a tiger which was also walking around restlessly. Walking up to us and then going back and returning for a long period of time.

Again pictures have come out terribly as its was drizzling and camera was unable to focus behind all that mesh due to which some blue hazy color came up in the foreground.

Would be nice if someone can photoshop it and make it clean
