My biggest asset is my supporting family.

Infact I was pushed into doing a trip way back in 2006 by my wife. I was like stay at home types. She had planned and executed an Ooty trip. My only demand was "can I take the car", which was agreed. Now there is no looking back. Must thank her immensely for opening me to a new interest.

Team BHP rocks too. I have many good friends from the forum, some whom I have met, and others only through interaction. But as you mentioned the sharing in this forum is just beyond words.

Belur

We reached Belur by 15:00PM.

This tank is on the way to Sakleshpur from Belur, 1 Km away from the temple.


Hoysala temples at Belur are the height of the artistically excellent periods in Hindu cultural development. According to many, the sculptures rival that of the Khajuraho.

If you have enough time, hire a guide and indulge in the beauty. Guides can be hired from Rs150 onwards.

Now let the pictures speak, but it cannot capture beauty as you see there.

Belur


The Channakeshava temple is still in daily use. According to Lonely Planet, the work on this temple began in 1116 to commemorate the Hoysalas' victory over Cholas at Talakkad, and continued for over a century. Front of the temple is reserved for images of dancers from Kamasutra and the back is reserved for Gods.

We finished with Belur by 16:00PM and drove to Halebid. Halebid is 16KM for Belur, and the roads are good. We reached Halebid by 16:20PM.

We reached Halebid Temple by 16:30PM.


The monument is open from Sunrise to Sunset.


I should once visit after the sunset to get a picture of the flood light lit monument.


Hoysaleswara Temple



The work on Hoysaleswara temple began in 1121 and continued for over 80 years. The construction was never completed. The temple has a large garden, and is on the banks of a river.












We liked Halebid better than Belur, because of the greenery around.

There is also a meuseum, where more sculptures can be viewed. Entry is by a Rs 2/- ticket.
