Day 12-13 Katra - Udaipur

We took the helicopter and were transported the distance of vaishnodevi shrine in 2.5mins!!! it was a quick darshan & we were back to katra by afternoon. Lunch, some work on car and we hit the road planning to reach Pathankot by night. Little did we know that we would end up doing a long long drive.

We drove down to Pathankot and it was dark by then, lot repair and road widening work happening on the way. We dint wanna get into the town and couldent find any hotels on the main highway and so we decided to move on to Jalandhar in no time. We took a short halt here for a quick cup tea, by this time I was almost in the mindset to drive thru the night. Ludhiana came and went and so did Ambala, finally we reached Karnal took our strategic fuel stop and decided to visit Zilmil for dinner. Spent almost an hour there and hit the road again by abt 3 am. There was no turning back, after a heavy dinner Mihir had gone to sleep again and I decided for both of us and went for it.

Crossed Delhi early and moved on towards Jaipur. I had been driving for abt 16hrs and needed a short nap. We parked at a dhaba with “Khats” and slept there for abt 30 mins. Lot of traffic on the road and we managed to reach Kishangadh for lunch. We were very lucky and had also underestimated the heat in RJ on our way to Leh, but now it was bad. You step out of the car(Gypsy with AC) and instantly its time for a headache. With great difficulty we got off and had lunch in an AC restaurant opposite Pangath on the main junction and moved towards Udaipur. Reached the outskirts of Udaipur and I was just convincing myself to halt for the night as it was very obvious that I will not be able to drive till Mumbai (it made no since stretching it now and halting later). Got in to Udaipur and called it a day. 28hrs driving 1500Kms approx…the average speed had taken a hit coz we did not have too much of a top speed in the gypsy (85kmph).

Udaipur

Having spent almost 2 days in Udaipur on the previous trip we decided not to spend time and make it just a night halt. Night was pleasant and we made it interesting by having some pizzas and eggs for dinner.

We decided to sleep well and leave the city before breakfast to avoid the traffic. Breakfast would be on the outskirts of Udaipur.

My Gosh!!! That's an amazingly long drive. 1500 kms in 28hours. I must say that you vehicle is very capable to take that kind of a drive and that too with most of the time the AC on. Bravo

BTW why was the top speed limited to 85km/hr. Was it because of the air con or something else.
Second what seats are you using on your DEMON??? I am off to a long trip next month on my Gypsy and have a bad conditioned lower back , therefore I am a little worried on that aspect???

Any advise would be useful
Cheers

Well the AC was not the problem at all. It was just that the optimum level of rpm was under 3k. Optimum from the point of view of FE, Safety( i have a booster installed) and over heating. The top speed i could do was abt 120kmph with AC and abt 130kmps without AC.

We could have done many more kms in that much time had we been in a vtec or a swift....for all you know we could have pulled it till mumbai. The travel fatigue in a gypsy is much more because of the vibration, no power steering, dynamics of the car etc...but a GYPSY is a GYPSY!!!

I am using seats from some old timer imported car. Got it second hand from the chor bazzar in mumbai. ( the seats helped a lot)

You better take care of your back dude.
