Chennai to Alleppey in my new Scorp!

Date: May 1st 2010
Vehicle: Scorpio Mhawk
People: 8

Route: chennai - vellore - krishnagiri - salem - Pollachi - Vaalparai - Chalakudy - Ernakulam - Alleppey.

Return: Alleppey - Ernakulam - Palakad - Coimbatore - Salem - Krishnagiri - Vellore - Chennai.

This is my first travelogue and I have every reason to share it here. First trip to kerala in car, first trip in my new scorpio, first opportunity to drive in hills, first time to drive in the forest and it goes on... It was to attend a friend marriage. I had to miss my scorp just after a month since i have to travel abroad. I was making all the plans from there and thanks to T-BHPians who helped me.

Our plan was to leave on saturday morning and i landed on Friday morning. I had one day to get out of jet lag and adjust to the time difference. I remained awake all friday and slept early on friday.

Initial plan was 5 members but 3 dropped off and preferred to go in train. At the last minute, 5 of my team members and our office ex-driver joined us. I explained the team members that it will be crampy and advised atleast 2 members to go in train but they were stubborn that either they go together or drop off. so i had no options but to fill in with 8 persons.

As planned we(me, my friend and ex-driver) started at 3 am from my home at medavakkam and went to anna university bus stand to pick up the team members. It was a slow start and we were taking our own time to settle down. We had all the regular stoppings like ATM, tea and gas station and when we reached the out skirts of the city it was already 4.

Since there was no ICE in the scorp, it was the mobile phones which provided the entertainment. We were talking about the time to travel and what are our plans for breakfast... suddenly there was a suggestion from the team members that we can stop by at salem at one of the team members house for breakfast. He called his house and made arrangement for the breakfast. Some where around vellore, i took the wheels and was doing between 100-120 constantly. There was not many breaks and we were at salem around 9.15. To our surprise, the breakfast was idle, dosai with chicken curry!! there was no talk, every one were busy filling their stomach.

I was pretty happy that we did 1/3 of the route in a very short time and we have enough time to reach alleppey. At that time, i didnt realist how big a mistake if you dont plan the time and go at your own pace.

To be continued...

Upto Salem driving is boring - four laned good highway. After Salem, the bye-pass is not fully completed & hence one needs to drive into the town little bit to keep going; anyways roads upto Kerala border (beyond Coimbatore) are good to drive.

I think he had around 4K before the trip.

I too drove around 100-120 during my earlier trip when my odo was 4200km.

Yes. Till Salem its fully four laned and i find this route better since it has less curves. you know scorp hates curves

As Mission_Safari said, i installed after couple of weeks. i wanted to do it through nitrous and i had only one day before the trip so had no option other than going without ICE. But since the scorp was fully packed, i didnt miss it too much.

It depends on individuals, it you have time and want to have some fun then route A. if it is just about point A to point B then route B.
