Completely Agree. I have passed this station 3-4 times in the last 4 years with the latest being 6 months back and it stands out among all the stations because of its hygiene (or rather the lack of it). I thought maybe I was the only one to notice but I think lot of people concur.

Anyways waiting for the rest of the travelogue and the pics to chug in.

There are 2 routes from Amaravti to Bombay and uncannily, both are around 700 kms long.

Option 1: Amaravati-Akola-Khamgaon-Malkapur-Jalgaon-Dhulia-Nashik-Bombay
4-laned roads from Dhulia onwards

Option 2: Amaravati-Karanja-Mehkar-Jalna-Aurangabad-Ahmednagar-Shikarpur-Chakan-Talegaon-BOmbay
4-laned roads from Jalna onwards, except for Shikarpur-Chakan-Talegaon

HVK, can't option 2 be modified from Nagar onwards to go via NH222? in which case, it would be like this : Ahmednagar - Ale - Malshej - Kalyan - Mumbai. This will enable one to cover the scenic malshej ghat on a reasonably good road with not much traffic.

Yes, of course, but this route may be slower despite being the shortest to Ahmednagar.

Central Jail

Central jail of Nagpur lies on NH7; just before the intersection of NH6 & NH7.

Fortunately, never got a chance to visit this jail

Hence no pics with me for this place. Just attaching a google view.

Nagpur - Amravati Trip NH6-nagpurcentraljail.jpg

This jail has a lot of historical as well as geographical importance.

Geographical, because is it centrally situated in India, literally! So it is easier to move dreaded dacoits & militants & other stuff to this place easily. This jail is not place starved, like those in Mumbai or any other major city.

I still remember those days, more that 2 decades ago, when Phulan Devi tried to run from Police-custody here.

Many innovative ideas implemented in the jail premises like:

handloom shop which used to sell the handloom items produce in jail,
super market [read co-operative store],
also car washing center.

Don't know how many of them are still running fine.

It is said that the printing press in the jail prints board papers as well as competitive exam papers.

Rope used to hang the culprits is also manufactured here.

This jail is said to be a rare one having facility to hang THREE people at one time !

Overall it seemed to be a green place with lots of fresh air & peace of mind.

4 smileys when speaking of jails. Not good. Not at all good.

The jail looks more like a resort. Nicely laid out, very spacious, served by 2 highways, loads of greenery, free clothes and food.

The pics bring back my childhood memories
I used to live on the opposite side of the road (3rd pics) ie opposite to the power station (loacation is called 8th Mile).

I still remember the time when these huge transformers caught fire which lasted for 7 hours, throwing hot transformer oil high in skies.

The new road is smooth & with much less traffic:

Nagpur - Amravati Trip NH6-plainroad.jpg

Nagpur has a Mahindra Tractor Division, where tractors are manufactured. Transportation of these tractors can be seen on the highway:

Lots of two wheelers also can be spotted:

Floks,

I am planning a 3000KM trip from Bangalore - Nagpur (Pench) - Shirdi - (via Pune) Goa - Bangalore between 27th Nov 9th Dec, with wife and 2 year old daughter in my Santro AT.

Bangalore - Nagpur, I will be taking NH7 and Goa (from Pune) - Bangalore will be taking NH4. Both are probably India's best highways as of today so no worries there.

Have been worrid about the stretch between Nagpur to Shridi to Pune, I am not aware of these road at all!

Here is my plan for this route (based on google maps):
Nagpur -(NH6)- Dhule
Dhule -(NH3)- Malegaon
Malegaon -(SH?)- Shirdi
Shirdi -(SH?)- Sangamner
Sangamner -(NH50)- Pune

Is this a good route plan? Is there a better route?
How are the roads condition here? (I have planned to travel only in the day)
Any thing to watch out for?

Also I run on LPG - is LPG available in any of these routes?

Re: Nagpur - Amravati Trip NH6

Bumping up this old thread.
I'd like to know the condition of road from Khamgaon to Mahur (District Nanded)? The said road is SH 197.
