Meghamalai - A Would be Hill Station in TN

If you are looking for a new place to explore, unspoilt, un adultrated raw nature this is IT.

Location : This place is about 50 Km from Theni. Take a left turn from Chinnamanur
Road : Drivable till Meghamalai.bad in and around but worth it.
Stay : Few Tea Bunglows here. Economical would be to stay at Theni or Cumbum and make a day trip.
Weather : Cold in day time even. Similar to Kodai.Water was cold
Food : No hotels here. Only tea shop at Bus stand can provide some basic meal.

I'll let pictures do the talking.

Looks pretty serene indeed. Good to know about this place. I actually lived in Theni for 6 years, but had never come across this place.

How did you discover this place ?

This place is in the to do list for me this year, may be I will be doing it around December, clubbing with a stay at the Stanmore property of "Cloud Mountain Bungalow". Not sure how expensive its going to work out but after my experience at their Valparai property am clear of doing Megamalai only with a stay at their property.

Thanks for sharing Manav do post more pictures and how much time does it take from Chinnamanur. What about wildlife sightings etc.

I doubt you could reach either of the places from Megamalai, though I might be wrong. It is best to visit this place with a stay in either of the Stanmore properties, because almost the entire area in the hills belong to them.

There is a lot around Theni. Visited Vaigai Dam also and it's nice. Suruli falls also can be added. We always pass by theni , so this time I decided to look around.

Well I got it over the net. Was in the queue for a long time. Cleared it this time.Saw only Two Travelogues on net about this and both mentioned bad roads so I was skeptic before going. But it came out well.

Cloud Mountain Bunglow is just on the lake side. There are actually Three lakes Which I saw.Didn't see any wildlifes but may be if you go trekking, you might spot one.We were the only tourist there BTW.

The first lake is next to Busstand and There is a school in front of it. (See Children Picture). Can't be a better place for learning in nature. The kids started playing after the class. Alone at lake and cool weather.Cant have a better feeling.

I think must have taken an hour and Half or so. There are 18 Hairpin bends.

No Idea. This one itself was also a discovery as Google Maps didn't have this road. Not a soul around to ask for.The Signboards for Tea-Bunglow were in Tamil ( Not able to read). We just followed some similar signboards and drove towards the hill.Bets is to come back to Chinamannur and Thekkady is one Hour Drive.

Will look for more pics and upload.

I have heard about the place, but looking at the photos I am tempted to do a trip to megamalai in the next couple of months. Hopefully this location is not spoiled by the tourist attractions in the near future.
