Morning safari: 6.30 AM to 10 AM and Evening Safari: 2 PM to 5.30 PM. Round trip from Chandrapur to back Chandrapur should take about 5 hours. I would prefer the day safari as you can come back and attend to office work. I have used police quarters as the starting point of the link above as it is a prominent landmark in Chandrapur. | My biggest catch in Pench this season, a majestic Jungle cat; and others ...................Continuing the Pench story, here is the biggest catch that I have had in pench till date. A Huge male tiger 12 years old. Bablu was driving my explorer and positioned the vehicle in a way that I was almost at face level to this gentleman. I further stooped down low and took the shots inverted to get closer to the ground level The results are excellent as you all can see.Face  Left flank  Coming out on the road  Mid stance  Walking off the road (By far the best shot)  Rear left  Habitat shot  Reflection  I had been hearing about this giant male for years now and this was the first instance that I saw him. This was on 26th Dec 2010. You will notice that I have titled the photographs as face, left flank, rear left , etc.... This has been done to help identify this Tiger and separate this tiger from the other Tigers in this park. Tigers have distinctive stripe patterns and as a part of the systematic study on Pench Tigers this season, we are trying to take the face, right and left flanks and the rear photographs of every tiger that we come across. I can see a lot of team-bhpians visit various tiger reserves this years and write travelogues here. I request everybody to try to take the photographs of the face, right and left flanks and the rear of every tiger that you come across. All of you must remember that your drives in the parks are not just a tourism activity. The photographs that you get will help us a lot in our work of classifying and making area maps of Tigers in various reserves. I ran into this brute again on 15th January 2011. It was a very brief encounter and I again got a series of shots. The right flank was still elusive. 15th Jan 2011  On the same day in the evening hours , I had by far the best sighting till date of a majestic jungle cat which walked in front of my Gypsy like a Tiger. Stalking mode  Alert  Walking out on the road  After a meal  The long walk  Tigerish  The Look  A Jungle cat, my dear friends, is rarer than a tiger and getting a jungle cat walking in front of your vehicle for so long is a one in a million luck. Among other interesting images of this month, here is a composite image of the Baghin Nala - The abode of the Baghin nala tigress with two cubs.  Open this image in a new browser in full size and see the highlighted pugmarks of the tigress. A Green bee eater in superb light  Green bee eater habitat shot  You wanna mess with me ?  A majestic Samhbhar stag framed against an amazing background  An enchanting forest  Flight of the Grey headed fish Eagle (A record shot)  A tangled mass (guess what this is ?)  Pench is attracting a lot of attention this season because of the presence of about 11 new cubs.
