See Through Tires From Michelin

Hi Folks,

Came across this brilliant forward. Resilient Tech has been developing these tyres for the military. These radical new tires are made in South Carolina, USA by Michelin. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show on display.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.
The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these.

Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A. No more air valves
B. No more air compressors at gas stations
C. No more repair kits
D. No more flats
These are actual pictures taken at the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

I am not sure I like the design. They look like ultra low profile tyres.
However might be just the thing needed for Indian roads... though your car might end up weighing a lot more at the end of the journey due to all the stones and gravel it would have accumulated in the tyres enroute.

innovation an all is good, but they oughta provide some form of a sidewall, if just for visual purposes.
This looks , sorry to say, crappy!

like those bullock carts we've seen in the w&w thread with a car body mounted on top.

Well technology be damned, these are looking plain ugly on the car.
Maybe military will love it. Not me.

The tyre itself is not a hoax as Michellin has developed air-less tyres called Tweels (or something like that). The title is definitely a hoax as the tyres are not see through. There are quite a few threads on the Tweel onT-BHP itself.

For your reference.

Tweel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PS: Request to mods, please merge this with the existing Tweel thread.
