185/XX R15 for VTEC?

Hello Guys,

I've got the new City Vtec. It comes with the standard 175/65 R14 wheels. The ground clearance is 160mm.. Though most of the places it seems to be adequate enough, some really high speed breakers scrapes a bit and it really haunts me. I'm thinking of 185/XX R15s. Since I'm going in for a R15, effectively, wouldn't I be increasing the height by 1/2 inch, which gives me around 12mm higher GC?? I think this has been suggested on ACI as well. I checked with Honda, but they re-direct it to the dealer and he gives the standard answer, we don't suggest?? I'm afraid if I can reach a honda engineer to check this? Perhaps, you guys (guru's) can give me your opinion. Pro's and Cons if I go for it??

regards,
Laxminarayan

PS: Hope I'm posting it in the right thread!!!!

Laxminarayan - the advisable size would be 195/60 R15 but there might be a problem of the tires rubbing the wheel arches with the steering on full lock or with the car under full load. You might have to check the same before having the tires fitted. Another option would be to fit 195/50 R15 but with that size you are going to have ride quality issues apart from quick deterioration of the suspension. Probable sizes are :

175/65 R14 - 583.1
185/60 R15 - 603
185/50 R15 - 566 (If available)
195/50 R15 - 576
195/60 R15 - 615
195/55 R15 - 595.5 (If available)

The ideal upsizes according to the tyre's circumference calculations are either 185/50 R15 or 195/50 R15 or 195/55 R15. Rule of the thumb is that you should upsize your tires in a range of +1% to -3% range according to the circumference calculations.

The VTEC sold in Thailand comes with 185/55/R15.
You may want to check those out.
Ichibaan Honda was offering me an upgrade to 205/50R15 tyres when i went to see the car when it was just launched.
