What tires(make) should i go in for Octavia?? pls help !!

Okay Guys ,So after a long thought and discussions wth my frenz ,i 've finally decided to go in for the 16 inchers for my Octavia 1.9 tdi(the same as on VRS) ..
Now i need help on deciding the good rubber .. The size i am going for is 205/55/16(same as on VRS)

Pls help me guys and let me know ,what make/model should i go in for ??

criteria :

1) Great ride comfort/smooth silent ride(espically on our broken roads)
2) Quiet/no tire noise
3) Great stability/road holding/excellent grip(espically in dry conditions)
4) Good in terms of braking
5) Reliability ,espically on our rough/broken roads .
6) VFM

P.S mileage and Looks do not play an important role .
As i am going for an upsize ,the ride quality is bound to deteriorate
hence i want the tires to make up for that ..

Thanks in advance .

I got 225/50/16's on my L&K.. and I LOVE them.. you should look into getting them.
And .. NO THEY DO NOT TOUCH/RUB the wheel well's at all.
Edit.. Oops sorry I forgot to mention.. MICHELIN PILOT PRECIDA's

Beemer don't even think about fitting 205/55 R16's on your car they will completely destroy the ride of your car and the car will start rattling all over. My best friend had to change the tyres of his RS due to this problem. The car was fidgety, damn uncomfortable on our roads and it was affecting the suspension too as far as Alignment, Balancing & rattles within the car go.

If you want a upsize I would recommend you go in for either 215/60 R16 or 225/60 R16 after making sure they don't rub the wheelarches. As 2L8uLoose has already mentioned. Better still if you can please stick to 15" wheels and mount 205/60 or 215/60 on tose for best ride quality. I know they don't look anywhere as good but still!

As for brands if you want comfort stick to Michelin either Pilot Precada's (Like 2L8uLoose) or Energy XM1. You could also try Bridgestone Turanza's, don't go for Potenza GIII's since they are agressive and grip very well but there is a marked decrease in ride quality too.

You mean he had to change the OE tires due to the above problems
Buddy, before taking this decision i test drove the RS on our rough roads and i found the ride quality impressive(wasnt as good as 1.9tdi but still was acceptable) .. I am shocked to hear ,inspite of having the same OE rims and tires your friend had such problems ..

Would that make the overall feel of the car better ? I can think of going for 215/60 R16 but i feel 225/60/16 would be little on the higher side .

Very hard to do now cos my heart is all set to go for the RS alloys but after reading your reply i am lil scared and think what you are saying is correct .

What to do guys , stick with 15 or go for the 16 inchers ?? Any feedbacks from the Skoda owners would be highly appreciated .

Thanx .

donot go for anything below 60 profile rubber.
it'll harm your ride comfort too much.

we're having Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 on some of our cars and they are really good!

Pal,

I have the Goodyear NCT 5 in 16 inchers - a very marginal loss in ride quality but feels good on the handling part. And very VFM tyres and much much quiter than the Eagle D2's and the Michelins.

Thats my view. Do let us know what you get.

Cheers

I have an RS running 205/55/16 and plan to change two tyres to 225/50/16.

Would it be ok running the fatter tyres at the back and the current ones up front?
