First of all the tires are too big for the vehicle..i mean 17"
second the profile of tires are 40... you will feel every pebble on the road... i suggest you put on 15" with 60 profile tires on the car for a smoother ride..or a max 16" with 50 profile...
40 profiles are way too low.. not ment for indian roads...

Man, what were you expecting when you went ahead with a 40 profile and 17 inch wheels. You want a softer ride, junk those wheels. Not to forget, the extra stress the heavy 17 inchers are putting your suspension through. I would suggest, if you want to compromise on looks and ride, go with 15s. Though I would pick 14s anyday.

U cant do such a massive upgrade without modifying your suspension as well, to handle it.

You can't put 17"ers and expect a good ride. Thats way above normal for our Indian roads. Unless u work on the suspension, nutin is gonna help.

Even after working on the suspension your ride wont be much different. You hardly have any cushioning left. You should be expecting such a ride quality when you are putting 17inches in a City. The size 205/40 youre using is absolutely correct nothing wrong with that. But just keep in mind that the drivability would be as you feel it now. If you want it better youll have to downsize to 15inches.

Honda_dude,

I must admit that as soon as i saw the title of the thread "Problems with 17 inchers" i laughed and thought - what do you expect!!?

Not much you can do other than what has been mentioned above....
"Downgrade" to 15"ers and be o/k
or
"Downgrade" to 16"ers and maybe go slightly over the reccomended profile height, and sufferr a little less than the 17"s.

Personally, I would do 15 or less.

Yeah u can ride with 2 psi lower . But I am sure u will crack your alloy coz your section height is just (205) * .40 mm...ie 82mm which is just 3.22 " . I suggest you change to 16" and 50 profile what ever profile you choose 205 50 / R15 is perfect . But see to it that the overall tyre height is that of the Factory Spec tyres or else your speedo will need recalibration .Make sure u u r section height is above 4" . Thats the minimun height needed for a good ride .

Upsizing Tyre size for a Lancer

Guys,

Wanted to have a 17"er on the Lancer and after a lot of reading on the Forum, now Iam having second thoughts scaling it up.

Will increasing the size to a 16"er rims and low profile tyres do the trick? Hope I wont have too much have a problem.

Any highlights on this?

Thanks

No problem , But I am warning you ,ride is gonna be bad . And try going for a Good year tyre might help . Eagle F1 has it all ,decent grip cushioning ride and nice looks . But the level of grip you get from wider track tyre specially upwards of 205 is bindblowing . But to fully exploit the grip you realy need to do suspension alteration.
