new tyre trade-in's

Folks, what I intend doing is trading the factory-fit tyres of my new Xeta with tubeless tyres (either Goodyear Eagles or Bridgestone Potenza's) and decent looking five-spoke alloys (either Aura or Neo) from an authorized tyre dealer. Standard tyre size is 165 x 65 R 13.
Now, I'm not exactly sure how much I should expect for the trade-in. I was hoping some of you guys might have a better perspective on this. I do not wish to readily agree with what the dealer quotes; so if I had an approximate price range, I could possibly bargain or fabricate something to the effect that I could have the similar set-up done elsewhere for considerably less.
Also, I can't seem to decide between Goodyear and Bridgestone.
I am, sort of, on a budget and welcome some comments/suggestions.

Thanks

Bro,
you should expect around 1400 bucks for your new 13" tyres.
A pair of good tyres like the GIII's would cost you around 3000 bucks in 14" and a good set of alloy wheels would cost you around 14000 bucks.
Check out the Yokohamas before deciding.
I would prefer either the Yokohamas or the Potenzas over Goodyear eagles.
Try and get a size of 175/60R14 or 185/55R14.
Cheers

Is 1400 bucks all I can get for the set of 5 new factory-fit tyres?
I would hence be looking at somewhere around 15K for a set of 5 Bridgestone Potenza's and now, was the 14K for a set of 4 or 5 alloys?
I do not wish to upsize; are Potenza's available in 165 x 65 R 13 size?

Thanks

OOps,
sorry, forgot to mention prices were on per tyre basis.
I am not sure if the bridgestones come in 165/65R13 though.
It was 14000 for a set of 5 alloys.
13" should cost you around 12000 buck but i am not so just check around.
Cheers

Bridgestones (not potenza though) come in 165/65 R13.. tubeless...
About Exchange value...depends on how much the tyres have run... and the Brand you have versus what you are exchanging with... Bridgestones and MRF have a better resale compared to Goodyears

expect to pay about Rs 300/tyre extra on exchange of a bridgestone with a goodyear (as goodyears are about 10% cheaper than 'stones) or so if the car is brand new and out of showroom... the Goodyear Eagle GA Plus that I have in my santro (165/65 R13) are pretty good and I would reccommend them to anyone running on a budget and also looking for low noise and decent wet performance.. (I changed to them from my Bridgestones tube type 155/70R13 and paid Rs 350/tyre extra).

you can go for bridgestones if you want high mileage (more than goodyear) but a bit rough and noisy ride compared to goodyears. The Pirellis and Michelins are pretty good too but more expensive than a goodyear or bridgestone..
I am all for goodyear which does not seem to be a very popular brand here.. but they come (Eagle NCT5) in Mercs, Optra, Octavias so nothing seems very wrong about them I have the NCT5 tubeless in my Baleno too (here I paid Rs 1400/tyre in exchange for an upgrade from 165/80 R13 to 185/65R14....new tyre price Rs3000 per tyre versus Rs 1600 I got for the OEMs) and have done 20k kms with one puncture but no deflation... am very happy with them!!

League have some nice alloy designs... www.league.com.tw

Is that true? I read elsewhere that Bridgestone tyres perform very well on bad roads and in bad weather;however, they start to make noise at speeds over 100kmph.
300 bucks/tyre!!! I would be trading-in brand spankin' new factory-fit tyres.

I meant Rs 300/tyre extra... not the exchange value..
I have in the past used Bridgestones (145/80R13 and 145/70R12 and 155/70R13 in an Uno and an 800 and a santro) and Michelin tubeless (155/80R13) in a Uno and Goodyear Eagle in my Santro and Baleno... I love the Eagles though people look down upon them sometimes as they come as OEM on a variety of hi end cars and the OEMs are not considered really hi tec...
on the other hand, I assure that a model is selected for OEM only after considerable testing by the car makers...and the fact that the Eagles come as OEM in Mercs and Octavias mean that they must be able to meet some standards for sure !!!

hi guys.....i think MICHELINs have a new pattern ENERGY XM1 & also Bridgestone have a new tyre TURANZA in 165/65R13 ........both are for a comfortable ride & much better handling than a stock tyre......if you are looking for a better grip & road holding go for Bridgestone GIII in the 175/60R13.........i found the eagle F1 Goodyears & their new version the only one worth a mention....though they are only available in 15" & 16" i guess....the eagle NCT5 had some very bad experiences among my friends who changed their stock Goodyears in Optra & Octavia to other brands.. i wud not suggest 14" for your xeta as it will hamper your comfort a bit too much with a lower profile tyres & the indica suspension

cheers

sorry on the price front.....both Bridgestone Turanza and Michelin XM1 should be less than Rs 300/tyre though the GIII Potenzas should be costlier around Rs500/tyre from the stock tyres on an exchange basis .........

The Turanza ER-60 is a touring line while the Potenza GIII is a performance line.
@carcrazzy : I plan to stick with the standard 13 inchers; don't wish to upsize. Do you have any idea how much a set of 5 brand new Turanza's cost? What about the Potenza's?
And how much, in your opinion, would I get for my 5 XETA tyres.

Thanks

If u get Bridgestone tyres with your car u will get good resale value n if u get Goodyears(GT3 or NCTs) in exchange there's a possibility of dealer paying u back some cash.....
Turanza is cheaper than GIIIs by some Rs 300/piece....
Its a new tyre with some sidewall protection but i doubt it can match the grip levels of GIIIs.....

@kpzen : Goodyear's in exchange for Bridgestones would fetch me more than Bridgestones in exchange for Bridgestones. Is that what you're saying?

Bridgestone tyres are costlier than goodyears be it any model...

For my Baleno stock 165/80-13 B'stone S248 they gave me a resale value of 2.4K/piece n new Goodyear GT3 185/70-13 were costing me 2.2K/piece so in that case dealer was going to pay me back...But instead i opted for GIIIs for which i had to pay some Rs 400/piece more...

The XETA may be fitted with Bridgestone S322. If so, how much could I possibly expect from the tyre dealer in exchange for either Potenza's or Turanza's?
Anyone have any idea on the cuurent price of a brand new Potenza/Turanza tyre?

if you are going for the 165/65R13 turanza ER60 the touring tyre with better comfort than the GIII and as broad as the 175/60R13 GIII ,both S322 and ER60 will be 2300 & 2350/tyre respectively in the market.
However the Potenza GIII will cost you around Rs2800~2900 a piece as there is no match to its performance in terms of traction and cornering grip both in dry and wet conditions.
