I'd guess it's more a factor of convenience. Where do you get the best service? What brand does your regular service center stock / recommend? How long will the tyre last for?

If you get more performance oriented, then there's probably lots of review and comparative tests on the ultra-performance tyres. Not something you'd be able to find easily for the entry-segment tyres.

I'm sure Michelin recommends it, but at the end of the day, it's up to the dealer to do what they want. (And even if the dealer suggests a hot-patch, the customer will probably still insist on the faster and cheaper plugging method!).

In some other countries, plugging tyres has been banned by law!
