Hello wasava tyres,
Quoting very old post, did you also changed the stepney to above said size? If yes, was the upgraded tyre able to fit the stepney well?
Thanks and drive safe.

Re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello everyone.
So we will be taking the delivery of our Ignis Delta AMT on 31st Aug and I am planning to change the stock tyres with 185/65/15 yoko earth 1 tyres. Since the difference is more than 2%, will it be ok if I go ahead with this tyre size?

Yes, absolutely no issues with this size. In my opinion it’s the perfect size for the Ignis.

I am just concerned about the wheels scrapping when the car will be under full load and being driven on bad roads. Will it be alright to use 185/65/15 tyres in these situations?

It should be alright, I honestly don't see it scraping in those situations.

Re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Anyone using 185 65 R15? Wanted to know what's the tyre pressure one is keeping for this upsize. So far yet to come across anyone using 185 65 R15 for Ignis, though 60 profile is common, which lowers the ground clearance. It will help if someone could post a photo of any Ignis running on 195.

195/60R15 is the correct size for Ignis from the Upsize recommendation perspective, check the comparison below:

Upsize Comparison

The circumference deviation should be < 2% which makes the 185/65R5 a borderline case while the 195/60R15 becomes the correct choice. Also note that GC does not reduce with 195/50R15 but increases marginally.

You can keep the air pressure the same for this type of an upgrade - check the thread here for more on Air Pressure > (Correct Tyre Pressure For Upsized Tyres)

Thanks for this and the photos, have got some clarity now. I have to do an Uttarakhand hill run in the next two weeks and want to change to a wider set of tyres before that. Basically, my choice boils down to two: A) 185 60 R15 and B) 195 60 R15.

Case A entails a lower ground clearance, which I'd like to avoid. Also, have a feeling that if am spending on good rubber, why not go for 20 mm upsize instead of just 10 mm, which may or may not give much difference in real-world handling. However, the 185 looks aesthetically nice, neither too wide nor too thin.

Coming to Case B, 99% I will go with this one as the overall diameter is the least affected and ground clearance gain is very marginal (in the already tall car). But - a big but - being a chaser of aesthetics, am still unable to get a handle on how the 195 will actually look from front and rear. Would they extend out too much, giving an eyesore, like those some Swift boys who slap tractor tyres in chasing the wider dream and end up looking hideous?

Would it be asking too much if I request you to add two-three more photos, whenever you're free, of your Ignis shod with 195 taken from the front and rear in good light where the tyres and how much they are sitting inside/outside the fender are clearly visible? The above two photos are really good, but they don't show an indication of how wide the 195 look in Ignis from the front or back.

So it's obvious that the technical part is sorted, that is I am going for 195 60 R15, but I'd still like to see the "looks" part of it. It will give some peace to mind to know before I take out my wallet.

Will check out Yoko Earth-1, Continental CC5 and Bridgestone B290 - a balance of hard and soft compounds.

I have not upsized the tires on my Ignis - its still stock. I have requested BHPian roushan84 to share pictures of his Ignis with upsized tires (195/60R15).

Re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi guys, I wanted to know if tyre dealers take the stock wheels as well along with the tyres when upgrading to alloys?

I'm planning to book the Ignis and would like to do this.

Yes. Many dealers do that. Check with different dealers and pick the best deal.

Re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I am planning to upgrade the tyres on the new ignis that I have booked and awaiting delivery. While I had set my mind on 195/60 R15 basis feedback here, found out that the stock alloy is 5J which can accommodate upto 185mm only. For those considering an upgrade to 195mm tyres on stock alloys, please consider that 195mm tyres on 5J alloy rim is sub optimal and not recommended. The ideal upsize on stock would be 185/60 R15 as it would be within 2% tolerance limit

Will be glad to be corrected.
