Re: Review - Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 on a journey through Devbhoomi

UPDATE - 20000 kms done.

I have now done 20000kms in the last one year on these tyres.

Much of these kms have been done in the Mountains.

During this period i have done:
1. Delhi to Sikkim (North, West and South Sikkim) and back.
2. Delhi to Manali (a few times).
3. Manali to Ladakh (Leh, Hanle, Umlingla, Tso Morori, Tso Kar) - Here a lot of no tarmac running was involved.
4. Lot of city and state running in Himachal.

After reading the comments by others about what i could expect from the tyres, i was a little cryptic about them through these journeys.
But i must say, i have hardly felt any major issue through any of my routes.

My observations are:
1. No tyre cut or puncture so far.
2. Medium level of grip on offer, especially through wet roads.
3. About a 12% increase in mileage vs. the previous tyres. I can feel lower rolling resistance while driving. The car does tend to roll on for longer. If driven mindfully, you wont have to be on the gas constantly.
4. Suffices on most parameters that most car owners would look for from their tyres.
5. Not what i would call an enthusiasts' delight.
6. I think braking distance is ever so slightly longer on the tyre.
7. You will ideally want to adjust your driving style to a more sedated and relaxed manner to get the best out of these tyres.
8. Road noise is at a medium level. Its not as bad as the last set i had. But there will be options with even lesser road noise.

All in all, if someone is looking for new tyres can go for this, if your priorities are:
1. Better fuel consumption
2. Relaxed driving style
3. More highway running
4. Not to drive considering every corner as a curb to attack

I have also done 20k kilometres on these tires on my ertiga. 75% have been on highways. My observations are very similar. Rolling resistance is really low and I can notice that while coasting. It is quite resistant to punctures and has a sturdy build. As the tire ages I have noticed slight increase in dry braking distance. Wet braking was worse to begin with. I maintain a lower speed in rains as it hydroplanes a lot.

Re: Review - Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 on a journey through Devbhoomi

I got the Ecopia 150 stock tyres with my new 5th generation Honda City last year in April. I have driven the car about 15,000 Km so far in about 10 months, since purchasing the new car.

I have experienced 5 x tyre punctures so far. I am quite regular in checking the tyre pressure almost twice a month and I inflate the tyres based on Honda's recommendation of 36 psi. Most of driving is within the city on tar/ concrete roads. Very occasionally, I may cover a patch of kutcha road. I also do highway driving 30 % of the time.

I have used Bridgestone tyres earlier on my Wagon R and was very happy with their performance for about 40,000 Km. (Barely 1 x puncture)

Ecopia 150 is one of the worst tyres available in the market which is very low on quality and cost. Last week, a piece of the rubber from the tyre from the tread area just came off. On complaining to Honda dealer, they sent a compliant to Bridgestone, who in turn rejected the warranty claim citing damage to the tyre due impact with a a sharp object/stone on the road, which doesn't make any sense at all. I mean a tyre is meant to do exactly that, handle roads. This was not even a side wall fracture. It is an issue with the tread, which happened because of poor quality of materials used.

When you drive a car, the tyres are expected to be built to handle Indian road conditions. I have again raised a compliant to the Honda Dealer and will see what comes out of it.

If I do not get support, then I am planning to replace all 4 x tyres with either Yokohama or Continental tyres. I do not wish to buy another Ecopia tyre and the performance is unpredictable and poor.

In the name of cost cutting, Bridgestone is scoring a self-goal by launching such mediocre quality tyres which do not resonate with their brand, which has always stood for high performance & reliability.

Same goes for Honda. Not sure what does Honda gain by selling a INR19.5 Lacs on road car with such mediocre quality tyres. if they would have asked me for another INR 20,000/- and given Yokohama or Continental tyres, I would have happily paid for the peace of mind.
My 2 cents here are that if you get them with a new car, then you don’t have a choice. But, don’t spend money to buy new Ecopia 150 tyres and they are money down the drain. My experience with Goodyear tyres has been much better.

Here is my rating for Bridgestone Ecopia 150:

Performance: 5/10
Reliability: 2/10
Tyre Quality: 1/10
Ride Quality: 5/10
Support from Company during warranty: 1/10
