Your favourite alloy wheel design

The topic of this thread may seem cheesy, but for some people alloy wheel design is at a very high priority. I have seen people getting a lower variant without alloy wheels and adding new aftermarket rims immediately after purchase just to avoid boring looking units.

My question to the BHPians: Which OEM alloy wheel design, at any price point, is your favourite?

Starting with the question myself, my personal favourite alloy wheels are the ones available on the BMW X3 MSport:

They really suit the car's sporty character and add a bit of flare to the otherwise well proportionate side of the X3. IMHO, BMW should make this design standard on the X3 range.

Thanks.

Re: Your favourite alloy wheel design

Wheels really, really make the car. Good rims can make an average car look great, while bad rims can make a beautiful car look awful. We have some threads on wheels already, but I guess you're talking of favourite designs overall, not just OEM. For reference, best alloy wheels <20 lakhs, worst looking alloys, show off your rims and the steelies thread.

I'm a sucker for 5-spoke "starfish design" wheels:

Most of my cars - right from the 1996 Esteem onward - have been shod with starfish-wheels:

Re: Your favourite alloy wheel design

I have always liked the designs by Aura alloys (which has now been taken over by Precision Auto Industries), particularly this one:

https://www.indiamart.com/precision-...ml#11661321173

This is how the above model looks on a SUV:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...km-report.html (Scorpio LX Crde Turbo 2.6 1200 Km Report)

Unfortunately, when I bought my Scorpio in 2010, these alloys were not available anywhere, as Aura had shut shop at that time, before being resurrected recently.

Alloys on the Alpina B7 are my favorite ones. Simple, elegant and gorgeous.

Ever since I was a kid, I have always lusted after the magnificent AMG Monoblocks, especially on the W124s, W126s, W140s, and even the w210 AMGs.

Apart from the Mercs, I also especially love the 5-spoke RS/S line Audi rims, which we could see on a plethora of Audi products from the 2010s. Surprisingly it is a popular retrofit on other Volkswagen and Skoda products.

I would also give props to BMW M and Alpina for having the most timeless and beautiful rims.

Lastly, the one design which really strikes me in the modern 'boring, big and aggressive' design language is the Genesis G90 rims. They look like art in the world of bland re-used rim designs.

Re: Your favourite alloy wheel design

I like alloy wheels which are simple and elegant, and not overly complex or flashy.

One of my all time favorite designs is the BMW Style 397 wheels, which they offered on the 2012-2015 328i. Below is a picture which is one of my desktop wallpapers:

Me too. I love the 5-spoke designs. My other favorite design is this one on Ferrari 458 Italia, and this is my other desktop wallpaper:

Re: Your favourite alloy wheel design

Mine would be those found on the first-gen Audi RS7. They look incredibly clean and sporty. I may be in the minority, but I love the contrast created between the outrageous wheels and the otherwise business-like styling.

Re: Your favourite alloy wheel design

Seriously? I never ever gave alloys much thought. Default is ok for me. But, are the alloys like earrings and necklaces for a car, just for beautification, or they offer superior functionality? If it is the latter, does the functionality have anything to do with the shape?

My all time favourite: Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X BBS Forged rims. I just love this design. If I have the money and can find a replica of this design for my Chevrolet Beat, I will not hesitate to plonk them on my car.

In some cases alloy wheels do affect the functionality. Citing an example of the alloy wheels of the Lexus ES, they've hollow spokes which filter out the road noise in the cabin. However, in most cases alloy wheels are just for the show factor and have no functionality.

Thanks.

Re: Your favourite alloy wheel design

Honestly the OEM alloys are getting more and more boring these days. But we had some good designs previously. My favourite is Jetta 5 spokes. Infact 5 spokes are so classy.

Though if we consider aftermarket, we have so many good looking and quality options.

Re: Your favourite alloy wheel design

I like alloys that have the right mix of sporty and elegant, they are like a metal dress watch if you will, looks good on a suit but also looks good for daily use. Naming one alloy wheel design is rather tough but here are my top picks:

Budget Cars: Ciaz Alpha alloys, look really good, esp with the sedan body pairing
Little More Premium: Have been a sucker for early VW alloy wheels esp of the Passat and Jetta, even some iterations of the Vento
Premium Cars: All time favourite OEM alloy was the one that I had on my GL350 CDI AMG line, similar to the Starfish design that GTO spoke about. IMHO the GLS of the previous gen and even the current gen GLS barring the Maybach don't come close to those alloys.
