HELP -OHC under body(silencer) scraping speed breakers

Hi,
I have OHC (Type -2) 1.3EXi. The underbody (silencer) is getting heavily scrapped on the speed breakers, Can you people help me to over come this.
What could be the possible reasons for this?
My tyres will last another 5,000Kms (13" ones). I have to change the tyres.
I'm thinking of puttin 14" rims with tyres. Do i need to do any modifications to the suspension(say adding a spacer) or is it a direct fit in ?
Are my shocks weak ??? ( car has run 85K kms) If i press the car's body, my car doesn't bounce.
Pour in your suggestions
Thanks in advance

i think the problem could be with your shocks. but anyway the ohc are known to have low clearance. did this happen earlier or has it started happening off late?

The Ohc has low ground clearance, but at the same time something seems to not be functioing if the stock exhaust seems to be scraping.
Your car has clocked 85,000 kms, you surely need to get the suspension checked. Do let us know how it goes.

About the wheels, 14 or 15" wheels would be pretty ok, and would not scrape the fenders or anything.
I've been running my Ohc with 195/55/15 since almost two years now, and i havent heard a tyre scrape even one single time.

manson.

Well I need to check the suspension pretty soon.
@Manson... Is 14" / 15" rims/alloys direct fit in or did u put in any spacers ? or did you do any modifications?

Hey Sushrutha,

This is a common problem.

Solutions:

Go for "185,70,13" tyres, this will solve your problem to some good extent. atleast my ohc did manage to go through some bad speed brakers without scrapping.

About increasing the rim size... it wont make that great diffrence as higher the rim size you will have to scarifice on the profile of the tyre. This is what i learnt and agree with the logic.

I think you better check your suspensions, am sure it will need some work.

btw looks like you bought this machine recently, how much did you buy it for? pics etc?

Your shocks are the culprit. I don't think you have any rebound.

@lohithrao
I'm planning to go with higher profile (say 80 profile for the 13").
Saw ur garage pic. where was the photo taken ? was it in NH 48 ( sakleshpur) or charmadi ghats?

What are options to raise the suspension?

Yeah brought my car last week.
Got it from my relative( same town) for 2.65Lakhs...
Paid NCB, New battery . so it came for 2.75L...
Once i'm done with the tyres, suspension etc it may come close to 3L ...

Car is mostly run on highways. Chickmagalore - Bangalore-Chickmagalore

But as far as i know the car shouldn't rebound many a times if the suspension is good.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Hi Suchrutha,

Yae its taken on "Shiradi" ghats, on my way back from my home town(Mangalore)

Sounds like a good deal. even i hav a 1,3exi. got my suspension stiffened by Fazal(FRK) prior to that handling was very poor and very unconfortable.

Yae higher profile would be better but am not sure if you will get "80"??

Lohith,

Are there any spacers needed for the stock suspension for 185/70-13?
I am planning to upsize for the same as I too am facing the scraping issues on a full load.
The sidewall increases by 7 mm (12.5-122.5)

Same prob on my car. I'm planning on removing the primary muffler, using a straight pipe and refitting the 2ndry muffler at the end.

Yeah, it should just come back to it's original height and stay there. If it bounces many times, that means your suspension has gone soft.

If thats 85K on the stock dampers, yes...they are pretty much beyond useable life.

No spacers are needed if you are upsizing from 175/70 13 to 185/70 13

I have it on my ride, no issues whatsoever.
