Re: Using a Tyre Inflator | Step by step guide

I bought a heavy duty compressor few months back, it's a double piston compressor with an airflow rate of 300L/s. It requires independent connection directly from the battery terminals. During the desert drives I need to deflate my SUV's tires to 11 psi. It inflates the a single tire within 50 sec from 11 psi to 35, without a sweat. Quite happy with the performance. Have plans to get an onboard compressor from ARB next.

I also have one from Porsche, came with the Boxster S. This one is only good for top ups & incase having a puncture can inflate a single tire.

While I was in India, I used to have a Michelin compressor. Used that few times to top up air. It went bad after a year of mild usage. Maybe I had used that for 10 times.

All of them get very hot during prolonged use. I advise not to use small compressors more than 5 min at a stretch.

The inflator has also helped me reach puncture repair shops a few times when I was confronted with a puncture.
That's a nifty little tip, I have used the inflator multiple times to help me get to the nearest puncture repair shop but to use it to regularly top up the air never crossed my head. Going to try it on my next monthly air pressure check. Thanks

Hi Jeroen..
The technique of changing a tyre is the same.
But the jacks which come with the newer cars are not of the same quality as before. Finding the right place to keep it under, jacking it up manually..not easy.Especially with bigger & heavier cars
Last time I tried this 5 yrs back, the jack slipped at the end of the tyre change. Thankfully, the tyre was already in place.
An industrial size jack is very easy to use.
But carrying one around is not practical.

Check your owner manual. It will, tell you the exact locations, it will also tell you how to place the jack and how to ensure it is done safely.

Yes, industrial jacks are easy to use, but very few people including many mechanics do not how to place them correctly under the car. The jack provided with the car usually fits into a specially strengthened recess. Your industrial jack won’t fit there. Most mechanics will just look for something sturdy and jack up a car., some will simply raise the car by shoving it under the differential. That is generally not allowed.

The car workshop manual will show how and where you can place the industrial jack.

So be aware when using an industrial jack. Without knowing where it is safe to jack, you might do damage to your car.

Since this type of tyre inflators have a high capacity battery, they are more like power banks.
Aren't power banks fire hazards?Airlines are very careful with them.
Since these will be kept inside the car irresepective of the heat & sunlight, wouldnt they become a safety risk?

I have this tyre inflator, connects to the car cigarette lighter slot. has been working well for a few years now.

Now, the small connector that helps fill in the air seems to have developed a leak somewhere. Any idea wgere could I source this connector?

As long as it is not exposed to sun and high temps, These batteries unlikely to be a probelm. It has 6000mah battery which is same as samsung phones like M15. Also this can be used with cord as well without charging the battery like a regular corded inflator.

(airline regulations have much more serious reasons to ban batteries in check in bags though)
