Upgrading tyres on my Hyundai i20 N Line Hey Bhpians, after a thorough search on the internet and after rummaging through several reviews I finally decided on shifting from the Ceat SecuraDrive (default tyres) that come right from the factory to the Conti UC6 .
From the past 2 months, the rear left tyre of my Nline was constantly leaking air, however it was very minimal so much so that I could refill it and it would maintain that pressure for a week or so. I suspect the rough terrain that I encountered while travelling to Gandikota had caused minute tears on the tyres. If any owner is reading this just after buying a new car I strongly advise you to exchange your set for a completely new aftermarket one so that you can get a substantial discount as you will thank me later on the huge difference this makes. I will attach a link for your reference on what I used to determine what will suit you the best. Here's my 2 cents on tyre changes.
Since the Nline's suspension is relatively stiff I was told to stick to the same size as upsizing would make the ride too uncomfortable in the city. Then I started to look at some options, I went as far as asking my friends on the Pirelli Cinturato reviews. I even went to try the Falken tyres as well in Hyderabad. After checking all the variations I came down to the Conti UC6 as it was the perfect balance between sportiness and durability. Additionally I wanted to reduce the cabin noise which already relatively less in all Hyundai's but unlike purely focusing on this aspect as the Michelin Primacy 4 ST does, Conti's offer a unique prospect of increasing your fuel efficiency as rolling resistance decreases immensely. Going for Falken or Pirelli's are not suggested for Indian conditions, as the road quality nuances in India pose several risk factors especially in narrow streets.
I ordered the tyres from TyresNMore website, they promptly delivered the tyres and installed them on the car after aligning the wheels. However they messed wheel alignment on their part. I had to get it redone in the showroom. The difference has been very noticeable pre and post joining the Conti Family. The road noise has diminished significantly. Pretty soon, after breaking into the tyres the turning variations changed heavily. On narrow streets the Conti's were putting a smile on my face because of the immense level of grip that it offered. Scientifically speaking, the asymmetric pattern of tread on these tyres offer extreme cornering ability and lowered road noise by breaking the resonance. It almost felt as if the tyres were sticking to the road, this lead to a few jump scares for my co-passengers who were sitting in the car when there were some close calls . Moreover, the braking has been phenomenal. The difference is very noticeable. Prior to this, the CEAT SecuraDrive was unable to provide stable the speed levels on my Nline. There was vibration at higher speeds. I pulled the pedal back to not take any further risk but there was no stress on the steering. But in general, going above 100 might not even make you realize it unless you take a look at the Speedometer. If you are someone who loves speedy cornering and high speed stability while giving your passengers a hell of a time this is the tyre to go for. Pro tip: Maintain tyre pressures lower during the upcoming summer since going on long drives can heat the air and cause it to expand increasing tyre pressure. Advice 30-33 for a Hatchback calculate accordingly. If you want to avoid this hassle just shift to nitrogen.
Please drive safe.
