18 inches ? whats your opinion...

hey guys I'm putting up a poll in reference to putting 18"inch wheels on an
SX4 what do you guys have to say about ride quality judging from what you've personally experienced on the roads?

okay. IMO seeing that you are in mumbai and looking at the state of the roads i dont think 18inchers is good. 17 is the max you should go for. the ride quality shouldnt become much worse. also get some lowering springs. tell us more bout your sx4 and the mods planned.

See there are people who crib about ride quality with 15" rubber and 50 profile tires.You should talk to that guy akshay mentiond.

yeah well Gautum says his rieds good..but I need a lil convincing ...coz ive seen 16 inch rides on a city and I hate the feel...

it depends what car its on.. he already read that thread of the sx4 with 18inch wheels and that guy claims good ride quality.

Stick with your stock 17 , that's pretty good for performance .

the zxi comes with 205/60 r16 and the vxi with 195/65 r15.

I read somewhere that SX4 can take upto 19" as it inherits those huge wheel wells from teh SX4 cross over.
Whether you put them on smaller rims or whether you will upsize your rims as well may make the difference I GUESS. I dont have lotsa knowledge on tires. Guess the experts can comment. Is it possible to retain the stock 16" rims and upsize the tires alone?

why would you wanna do that? the sx4 already had 195mm of clearance?

Well, 16 inches on a City would mean a 45 profile. I run a 50 profile on the OHC and i'm fine with it. Perhaps others wouldn't be. Gautam for e.g. is fine with a 40 profile on his SX4.

I think you need to be discussing profiles and not Rim size if you want an idea on whether or not to upsize.
