Can we Repaint Alloys

Hi All,

Can any one tell me if it is a good idea to repaint the Alloy wheels!!!

I have a 15" Lenso SC01_CFR (caramel greenish) to lets say silver chrome colour...

How much would it cost me for getting this done? and would it come out good!!?

Thanks in advance...

I don't think you'll be happy with the results. First, you'll have to mask the tires so as to not get paint on them. Second, rims go through a lot like dirt, mud, rain and that's hard on paint. Third, first time you go to a car wash, some of the paint will flake off.

Life is made easier if you can remove the tyres and get it done.

m28jan search around on the forum, there is a thread created by a member from the North (Punjab?) who had got the alloys painted to matt black.

Of course they can be done! If not done professionally they will look really horrible.

It needs to be sanded down completely then a primer and base coat finally the paint and laquer to finish it off. Im not sure about the technical terms but look for paint that can withstand heat.

It could prove expensive though...Iv seen some good jobs done in Bangy.

It can definately be done, I have seen several repainted alloys, with lip and without lip and the results are amazing.

Alloys with lip should cost you 1K per rim and yes, the rims need to be taken off the tyres for better results.

Alloys without lip should cost you 2.5K to 3K for 5 rims.

Anodize the rims!

I had given my old gypsy alloys once to an aluminum sliding window "wallah" to get then anodized at his workshop. He got them dipped in acid and then anodized them to matt silver again. There are a few colors you can choose from. It was a gamble (first time he was doing it), but it paid off.
Brilliantly done! As good as new!
Stayed good for 15000kms till i sold the car off.
It cost me 2500 for 4rims to do it in 1999.
I'm sure you can find someone in your area.

P.S. Do not get them power coated. They will come off in no time.

Even a guy on the forum has his corolla's rim painted to purple.
Looked Fabulous ( his lip had chrome i guess)

Even I'm planning to paint my alloys on the honda first to check the effect and if all's fine , then on the vRs too.

I have been meaning to get my alloys painted to a hyper silver finish.Everyone seems to have painted their alloys here to a matte black or smoke finish.Am still to come across the results of a painted hyper silver finish.
The only source i have been suggested has been mazda motors in mumbai, are there any other reliable chaps around who could deliver the desired color and quality?
