Need Advice on Tyre Upgrade for Alto

Hello Folks,

I am planning to customize my new ALTO Lxi. Will start off with a Spoiler and internally adjustable body colored mirrors next month. I have some queries regarding upgrading Tyres and Alloys. My Car came with stock JK Ultima XP Tyres.

1) How good are these JK Tyres?
2) Does it make sense to upgrade to better tubeless tyres and alloys in a
small car like Alto? Is there a considerable difference in Performance or it
only enhances the looks?
3) Is it better to upgrade the Tyres and Alloys both at the same time or it is
more of a financial decision?
4) Do Tubeless Tyres go well with the stock Rims?
5) What are the Tyre Upgrade options for the Alto? Which is more VFM among
Bridgestone, Michelin, etc?
And lastly,
6) What will be the approximate price of these Tyres and will i get any return
for exchanging my current tyres which have run approx. 3000 Kms.

Waiting for your Opinions. T-BHP Rocks...

re: Need Advice on Tyre Upgrade for Alto

I have been driving Alto LXi for last 7 years. For last couple of months I have been facing lot of issues with tyre punctures. I have been told that tyres are due for an immediate change. Couple of queries:
1. Should I shift to Tubeless Tyres?
2. Which are the good Tubeless Tyre brands and how much approximately would these cost in Mumbai?
3. Which are the good normal Tyre brands for Alto and how much approximately would these cost in Mumbai?

Please help!!!

1. Unless you are on a very tight budget, you should shift to tubeless. They are generally safer an lesser punctures too.
2. Apollo, Michelin, Yokohama and Bridgestone are the most popular brands. But every brand makes many models, so you have to pick a specific model not just a company.
Apollo Acellere is a good one and i think should be around 2000/tyre for Alto size.
3. By normal i think you mean tube type tyres, Apollo, JK an MRF are popular indian brands for tube type tyres. would cost slightly less than tubeless ones.

Re: Need Advice on Tyre Upgrade for Alto

I got my wheels and tyres changed last year. Changed the tyres to Goodyear Duraplus, details of which can be found here.

I also added 13" apollo accelere alloys details of which can be found here

The current size that I have is 155/65 R13. While this may not be as extreme as some of the 175 mm treads that can be put on an alto, I've noticed that it hardly scrapes the wheel well- only when the back is fully loaded (3 or more people)
