Re: Morris Centenary - Gallery of Indian Cars

Here's another Kolkata Morris Minor that I saw last year being fixed up and a very nice 49 Morris Custom that I had down loaded from BHP.

Re: Morris Centenary - Gallery of Indian Cars

I found this nice Morris Oxford from another Team BHP thread.

I'm sure there are a lot of other nice Morris Cars "parked' that could be added.

The previous Morris and these two were found on the Classics-Travancore-Malabar thread.

Re: Morris Centenary - Gallery of Indian Cars

Here are some more Morris Cars I found on "Vintage & Classic cars of Belgaum.

I'm enjoying the "hunt" of going through many of the older threads I haven't read, all from the comfort of home.

I saw a Mini but couldn't tell if it was a Morris or an Austin. In Canada both were available. What about India?

Re: Morris Centenary - Gallery of Indian Cars

Here's another Morris Minor Convertible I saw here in Kolkata that is undergoing restoration.
What year is it?

Not Sure if this is a Morris or Austin Mini.
Thanks a ton.

I am interested in to know about the orange car that you have posted.
Also what would be the asking price for the green Mini Cooper? It looks like it has met with an accident.

The cars are owned by a "collector" who was dreaming about opening up a Car Museum. At that time he didn't seem to be interested in selling any of his cars.
I had made a separate thread for my trip to Gauhati you might enjoy looking at. I could try and get his phone number if you like.

Re: Morris Centenary - Gallery of Indian Cars

Spotted this beauty at Prabhadevi yesterday. In top nick, I must say! Was shining like a showroom car.

Re: Morris Centenary - Gallery of Indian Cars

These are such nice cars. Simple in construction and so "cute" as kids would say. Personally, I like the shape of the station wagon version, traveler I believe it was known as.

We are not the only ones who like such cars in general. SriLanka still makes them.

This is probably news to non Morris fans. So anyway, in south SriLanka one comes across a town called Galle. It is not unlike the Gaul you may have read of in Asterix comics. It has clever enterprising people.

A bloke called Dhanapala Samarasekara and another bloke called Charles Ware {owner of the Morris Minor Centre in Bristol (I read elsewhere it is in the city of Bath)} decided to make these cars. Just like that.

Not kit cars. Genuine road going ones.

Some say that about 20 odd hardy locals hammer out used submarine armor into Morris body panels. With their knuckles. I know, unbelievable. That is what I heard.

Ah, okay, not knuckles but a bull dozer's hydraulic bucket. That is equally radical.

I read this on "The Telegraph" paper's website 2-3 years ago. Last I heard British Morris owners were tripping over Ceylon made chrome plated vehicle bumpers.

It is a niche business. I hope they are doing well. The attached image has the name of the company. The full image is too big to attach here.

A new Lankan Morris costs 5,00,000 rupees (5 lakhs) in their currency.

I wonder how these cars are in terms of driving.
Is it a high torque engine like a yezdi Roadking?
Or an Indian premier padmini type of run all day at 60-70 km/hr engine?

My instinct says this would be akin to an ambassador (old non-Isuzu petrol) in road feel.

Unrelated note:
Does anyone know how one adds multiple images from a cheap phone? When I add a 2nd image the 1st one is getting replaced. And it is just 12 noon. Anyway, this misfiring plug is not a showstopper.

Cheers.
