Re: 1959 Plymouth Belvedere - Restoration begins

What I was able to learn from reading mirrors the markings on the engine i.e. DCPD. Chrysler's flat head engines obviously had different versions with different specifications and among them is the 230 series flat head or straight six which was originally meant for light trucks and was used across the 4 sister brand names as seen in the engine marking. The link below has the full details.

I read benu9714's post and did some more reading and found the Studebaker Commander 6 engine which is a flat head inline 6 engine and the most likely candidate for comparison with the above engine (Please correct me if I got this part wrong). When I google'd the images, I found the two engines visually similar to my untrained and inexperienced eye, until I found higher resolution images on Google search (Not posting here as they are easily found and I wouldn't want to simply repost the images). Once you look closely they have differences.

Some reference material:

Chrysler Straight 6 Engine - Go down to the part in the table where it has the 228.1 cu in (3,737.9 cc) engine

Update

As posted earlier the car was painted and the outcome was not as expected.

Sso it was decided to try to get the correct shade from USA and luckily these period touch up samples were found on eBay.

Finally the car was repainted today with the correct powder blue shade, will post more pictures in a couple of days.

Tail lamps lenses and a period radio has also been imported, the missing knob on the radio is now being sourced.

Nice shade of blue!

Has the rear glass landed? If yes, how was it shipped?

Not yet, though glass is available with couple of sellers abroad, the issue is with the shipping.

Here is a picture after the white on the roof and sides was sprayed yesterday.

Amazing! It'll be a head turner when it moves on the road, under it's own power.

I hope you are shooting a video of the whole restoration. Will be really interesting to watch. I am a big fan of restoration/modification videos. Thanks.

Great shade! I am envious over this car. In the background I See a Dodge Kingsway stationwagon custom getting ready in Golden and shell white colour. What a site to see three different cars from Chrysler US.
