Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

Voted for Rapid.

The day you realise you need a bigger boot and rear legroom, you'll have to think about upgrading from the Polo. It's simply a headache and you can save the pain immediately by opting for the Rapid.

Also, as far as braking is concerned, try getting the EBC yellow pads and better tires. Should improve things drastically!

Pre-owned, not in the consideration as of now, however, if this is the route I want to take, I would consider an used Octavia or a Jetta ( may be ). Abarth is no longer in production ( correct me if I am wrong here ) and don't want to end up with the same issues as my Fiesta.

Thank you. This would be the only car in the garage as of now.

Figo 1.2 is a non TC engine. I have taken a TD of Figo 1.5 blu and sorry to say this, the newer Figos don't drive like a typical Ford anymore ( again my opinion ). Don't want to spark a controversy here, they are still better than most other cars, but that's my gut feeling after owning two Fords.

Polo, felt a bit claustrophobic in the rear where as the Rapid feels more airy. Not going for Monte carlo, mostly style or Onyx.

why not the Vento? The TSI edition looks like a good package (the stickers can go), even the pricing is not bad.
Will add Vento TSI to the list. Thank you.

Spot on. At this moment, it doesn't make sense for me to pay 3-4 lakh extra for a boot and rear legroom, given that I may miss them "only" once in a while.

It could either have been a rapid rider vs polo TSI
Rider, is too basic. IMHO, if its between Rider vs Polo, I would go with a Polo.

Yes, right now, this may be once or twice in a year. But you never know in future. 3 years down the line, may be !. That way, it does make sense to go with a Sedan.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

If you're using a fiesta diesel, you'll definitely miss the mileage if you replace it with a turbo petrol. Power and torque in turbo petrol comes with a high daily running cost over and above the initial price of a new car. I drove my brother's Abarth for two days last week and mileage was not at all climbing beyond 13 kmpl how ever monk I become with pedals in day to day traffic. Moreover not all our daily rides are race tracks. Hope you're aware of this aspect too. Your Fiesta is not that old. 2015 is just five years. Fiesta is a great wine to store and enjoy. You may consider this aspect as well. Still you need to replace my vote goes for a Rapid.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

On the same boat as you are in and was planning to start a similar thread.

Voted for Polo because:

1) For me, next couple of years it is going to be one / 2 passenger max on the journeys.

2) More attracted to Polo design ( i know this is very subjective).

3) After couple of years, this car could become the 2nd car in the family and then go for a Sedan and who knows what all options i will have then.

I am yet to TD both of them but as per all the reviews on Web, all your comparisons are spot on.

So all the very best and hope this thread helps you to book the right choice

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

At the cost of possible repetition, have you gone through this thread?

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/ownin...rade-swap.html (ARTICLE: YOUR 5 year old car : Keep, Upgrade or Swap?)

Fiesta, being a discontinued model that it is, will be a disaster in terms of resale. Since you already have it remapped, the performance difference between the Rapid and your Fiesta souldn't be huge. But the fuel economy and maintenance cost difference will definitely not be trivial.

The question I have for you is, what is your primary motivation for buying a new car? If you can answer that to yourself, you should have your answer.

Voted for Rapid. Am a sedan guy and the Polo is definitely cramped at the rear and at some point that will bug you. The Rapid also has more features if I am not mistaken.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

I own Skoda Rapid TDI with DSG for 4+ years. Voted for Rapid. Best Sedan ever for me.

Polo find too cramped and overall like front design language of Rapid more than that of Polo/Vento etc.

Before buying Rapid I test drove multiple sedans/SUV such as Creta, City, Vento etc but when I sat in Rapid it immediately felt as if this is the car made for me. Did not get that feel in any other car.

Same thing happened with me long time back in 2009 when buying my first car - sat in WagonR, Santro, Accent etc, but minute I sat in Swift it felt as if this is the car for me. Bought Swift Vxi.

Maybe its just me, but see if you get this feel in any car that its meant for you. Basis that make a list of must haves and then let the heart rule over the head.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

Voted for the Rapid:
1) Service quality is better, as is support from Skoda
2) Usable rear seats
3) The Rider gives the option to customize the car as per the buyers own tastes - if you are a keen driver, first thing would be to slap on some grippier rubber for better handling & braking - Conti MC5 for example.
4) I'd expect the suspension to be a little more stable at higher speeds owing to the longer wheelbase

That being said, if bulk of the driving is in the city & in traffic conditions, the Polo may just be a little easier to zip around in but doubt it would make a big difference except while parking since the width is similar.

Wooow, an eye opener, went through the thread and boy, I am speechless.

True that.

Right, but a remapped TSI should yield much more horses !?. I already spoke to a re-map guy in UK, according to him, 135BHP/193-FT-LBs is what he can extract easily out of it.

Quote:

The main reason, support ( or the lack of it ). I have been trying to get an under guard and a left ORVM which is broken from past 3 months with no avail.
Unfortunately, that's just an example. Earlier, I had to fight for a fog lamp enclosure for close to 2 months and the story goes on.

Having said that, thanks everyone here for helping me with the decision.

May be, I will shod a new set of tyres for Fiesta ( MC5 !? ). Get a different tune and fight it out with ASS for the spares.

After reading the GTO's thread above, I am thinking to latch on to this car for another 2/3 years and invest/ save that money for an Octavia or some better upgrade.

I will keep you guys posted. Thanks a lot again.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

I’ve never waited for a spare for more than 4-5 days. I drive a 2014 Fiesta and I have replaced both my ORVMs. May be it’s because of the current situation. Or may be it’s the lethargic service centre.
I’d also advise to keep the fiesta, the resale is peanuts! Plus you can always order spares from AliExpress. Fog lamp housings and ORVMs are easily available. The car is mechanically sound and a hoot to drive. Polo and Rapid albeit better in some departments are behind when it comes to the steering feel. If you still want go for a new car, I’d pick the polo. Less parking woes and don’t have to shell out lakhs for a boot and slightly better rear seat space.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

If primary car, would go with Rapid else will pick up the Polo. Also If I am just going to use in city only, will pick up the Polo. Polo is expensive and smaller but gets better HU, alloy wheels and some added kit. Addition of alloy alone will make Rapid more expensive than Polo.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

I own a 1.2 tsi GT and have driven it against the vento 1.2 tsi (then).
Personally I would go for the polo. Reason- don't require a boot, love the looks over the rapid, mostly am the only person in the car, Despite horror stories, (Touch all kinds of woods) I have had seamless experience in the VW service centres every time-needs a bit of planning if you are doing something non-standard.

If I were in your shoes I would ask these questions:

1. Who is going to be in the car? If it's you- polo, if it's family- rapid
2. Do you need a boot? If not - polo; if yes- rapid
3. How much do you value the 4 airbags vs 2? Personal choice as it's worth the difference of the cost.

1. space - rear legroom + boot
2. suspension
3. it is a sedan

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

As others have mentioned before, it all boils down to a couple of factors.

1. Do you mostly drive in dense areas? Polo
2. Do you drive alone or with 2 other people? Polo
3. Do you have parking constraints? Polo
4. Do you have a great VW ASS in your town? Polo

1. Do you tend to go for road trips carrying a lot of luggage? Rapid
2. Do you need that rear legroom? Rapid
3. Do you enjoy the societal acceptance of a sedan over a hatchback? Rapid
4. Do you have a great Skoda ASS in your town? Rapid

All in all I LOVE driving hatchbacks and Sedans equally. Given the price vs features comparison between the Polo and Rapid, the Rapid leads by a fair margin.
Do keep one thing in mind though that the ingress and egress in the Polo is particularly challenging for the older folk. This was the reason why we changed from the Polo to the Baleno for my mother's convenience.

Re: Caught between the VW Polo & Rapid 1.0 TSI

Is it the new gen fiesta or the old one? If its the latter, then I would hold on to it as the car is just 5 years old and is relatively cheap to maintain. I myself own a 2011 Fiesta 1.6 and never had an issue sourcing spares at any spare parts shop. In fact, parts availability is more in the spare parts market than the service centres.

Also, the resale value would be abysmal. I would get a polo and hold on to the fiesta and have the best of both worlds. But if you are adamant to sell the ford, then the rapid makes more sense.
