Congratulations, the best choice and an absolute stunner. White looks the best for German sedans. Wishing you many miles of happy and safe driving.

BMW is running some good lease on X1 with some assured buy back, guess its for 3 series too. Did you also explore that option too?

Thanks.

I did not explore the lease option. I usually retain my vehicles for 8-10 years hence did not consider that option.

Many Congratulations!! White looks really neat - wish you many many miles with smiles!!

Can you share more on the discounts? Carwale says 56.6 OTR but you have paid 52.6 OTR which is 4 Lakhs. Did you get service packages and warranty? Appreciate more details.

Thanks a lot. I paid 52.6. The ex showroom translated to roughly 41+. I purchased the 5Y/60K BSI+/BRI (3rd year) at old rates that was applicable pre Oct hike.

Re: Which new car for 45 lakhs?

I'm in the market for a new car under 50lakh OTR. I have taken multiple test drives but I regret being in the market for a new car at this moment. The primary reasons are Too long waiting period, disappointing treatment and behaviour of the Sales executives, and too less options to choose from.

The car brands or dealer principles are only keen on getting the booking amount and using the money for their benefit. 5 years ago, we felt like the customer is king in the real sense while buying a new car but now the experience has become utterly distasteful even for being a consumer who is ready to invest 50 lakhs on your brands. Also, I don't understand the current scenario where you do not offer test drives and expect us to invest so much of the amount in the car. Even for a mere product, we get the feel of it but not for 50 lakh car. This is very disappointing.

Anyways,

Current Expectations:-
1) Need a high mileage car as soon as possible.
2) Need a premium and Luxury Experience in the car.
3) We have a high running of around 150 km daily.
4) Preferably an SUV.

(I realise there are almost no good options in this price range)

Test drove:-
1) Carnival:- Liked the space and cockpit like experience. But the car feels outdated and the Executive is not sure when an updated version will hit our market.

2) Octavia:- The car was a charm to drive, but the whole car felt very claustrophobic due to the black roof (maybe). I had sat in the previous facelift and the car felt so huge, but now my Honda City feels roomier and airier than the current Octavia.

The executive from Akoya Skoda was so sad that he uttered only 2 lines during the whole test drive.

3) Superb:- The engine and transmission are very much refined and I really loved the overall package that this car has to offer. But considering our heavy running, we are calculating the expenses that we will incur in the coming years. Plus this will be very high on maintenance.

4)Innova Hycross:- Long waiting period and ignorant behaviour of the Executives. This is a strong contender in the purchase and we feel this is the only car that suffices all our requirements.

5) Toyota Camry:- This is a car that has surprised us in all senses. I fear that this car may be discontinued in the next few months. Plus they are saying the waiting time will be the same as Hy-Cross which is 5 months.

I'm completely confused and in a dilemma to choose any options that meet not all requirements but most of them.

Could anyone help?

Re: Which new car for 45 lakhs?

You said you prefer a SUV and yet you haven’t test driven any of the SUVs. Instead you test drove the typical sedans like superb and Camry. Even hycross and carnival are MPVs. Am I missing something?

Hi. We recently got a 2022 Camry for our family. Me and my father had checked out the Superb and the Camry and ultimately got the latter home.

The Superb felt more luxurious. The feature list was also superior compared to the Camry. Our experience was same as well with Akoya Skoda in Pune. The Sales executive had assigned us his colleague who did not bother explaining us anything during or after the test-drive. However, the SA called my father some days later and said that he had a unit in stock (a white L&K) and could offer us delivery before the end of November. However, we had already made up our mind to go for the Camry reasons being:
1. The Superb (as well as the Octavia) is getting discontinued in March this year. Also, we were not very confident about the reliability of the car. We hold our cars for a long time.
2. The Pre-sales experience with Toyota was very positive, the team leader of the dealership (Sonak Toyota) himself had come to explain the features to my father and surprisingly even they had a Camry in stock in the color we wanted.
3. The rear seats of the Camry was a couple of notches better and overall the car felt slightly more comfortable than the Superb. However, we felt that the car misses on some features like 360 degree camera, bigger sunroof and additional parking sensors which should have been available at this price point. Also, the ground clearance could have been higher.
4.We had a very positive experience with our erstwhile 2010 Corolla Altis. The car was supremely comfortable and very reliable until a few months before we decided to replace it in 2022.
5. The Camry is not at all getting discontinued. The current model is here to stay till the end of 2024 at least.
Based on your running and requirements, I would suggest you to look for the Camry if you could find one. The waiting period given to you is normal as the Camry is made to order only. All dealers in Pune were quoting us 3-5 months waiting depending on the color. We managed to get hold of the car because as far as I know, someone had booked and cancelled so the dealer could offer it to us. I strongly suggest you to enquire from multiple dealerships outside your region if they have any car in stock even if the chances are low.

You read it right, I’m in the market for an SUV, but found very little options like Fortuner and Meridian.
We belong to a Corporate Business background and my father is not in a mood to travel in fortuner everywhere he goes.
The jeep meridian price is not justified to me and I’m 6 feet tall, I feel cramped in the driving seat as my head brushes the roof occasionally.
Any options you would suggest?

Thank you for your valuable advice, I have test driven the last facelift Camry and it felt notches above to drive it.
The Akoya Skoda experience was very bitter, I told them that I’m looking at Superb or Octavia and the SA was very keen on pushing me to get a Slavia or Kushaq.
The automotive market seems very uncertain.
What is the mileage that you are getting and the service costs?

The mileage is hovering around ~13 kmpl. The car has done ~900kms till date all of which has been driven in the city in normal mode. The car is due for its first service tomorrow and will update you on the cost. I expect the mileage to go up after the service.

Any reasons Hyundai Tucson is not considered? Its luxurious, spacious, comes with a good diesel engine and within your budget.

The tucson diesel felt very small in size and didnt feel like a 42 Lakh car. It looks like a bigger venue and new creta coming in the market will look similar to tucson. But the major reason was the car didnt have road presence and we didnt like it.
But i will schedule a test drive and update you on the experience.

Re: Which new car for 45 lakhs?

The camry is a very good upgrade from the Honda City, with similar traits of soft suspension, high reliability, low running costs, etc.

Given your location, I am not sure on the easy availability of 95 octane fuel - recommended for VAG cars such as the Octavia & Superb, but if this isn't an issue, the Superb & Tiguan could be great options as well and offer a more European luxury vibe (more power, stiffer suspension tune than the Japs resulting in a better driving experience). Make sure to extend the warranty to the maximum possible to reduce untoward maintenance costs.

For a blend of both the worlds : I would look at the Tucson. Granted the looks have divided opinions, but the space + ride & handling balance + powerful diesel with competent auto gearbox + features make a strong case for itself. Even globally, during a recent trip to Italy and Switzerland, I was amazed by the number of new generation Tucsons on the road.

Re: Which new car for 45 lakhs?

I feel check out the current gen X1. Though the next generation is around the corner, there are several positives-

1. You will get a good price
2. Diesel, so running costs can be kept in check
3. Robust build and proven to be fairly reliable.
4. High ground clearance

Plus you will get the BMW badge. If you are not bothered about the latest and fanciest gadgets and interior features, this is a solid option. Happy hunting
