2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift spotted

Mercedes-Benz is about to bring a mid-life facelift to its flagship sedan - the S-Class, which is expected to be globally unveiled in the next couple of months. However, a set of spy shots of the 2017 S-Class facelift has already leaked on the Internet, revealing details about the cosmetic changes made to the car.

Visible changes at the front include a new grille and revised headlights with 3 bars of LED DRLs in each assembly. The front bumper has also been tweaked a bit as it now houses a wide air dam that stretches across the width of the car and gets chrome detailing. The rear bumper and taillights also feature some minor updates, while the luxury sedan further gets a new set of alloy wheels.

On the inside, the 2017 S-Class gets a new steering wheel with aluminium, wood and leather inserts. The displays used for the instrument cluster and infotainment system are slightly larger, while the centre console continues to house the rotary dial controller. The new S-Class will also get various semi-autonomous driving functions, including a navigation-based automatic acceleration and braking system.

Powertrain options on offer with the new S-Class will include a new 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 diesel engine and a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol unit that will be replacing the current model's 4.7-litre, turbocharged power plant. A plug-in hybrid variant will also be offered, which will come with wireless charging capabilities.
