2024 Porsche Taycan beats Tesla Model S Plaid's Nurburgring lap record

Porsche claims that the upcoming Taycan could come with around 1000 BHP.

According to reports, the upcoming iteration of the Porsche Taycan EV is significantly faster than its current version.

The new Taycan has been testing for several months ahead of its global unveil expected soon. The pre-series model lapped the Nurburgring in 7:07.55 - 26 seconds faster than the 2022 Porsche Taycan S Sport and also 18 seconds quicker than the Tesla Model S Plaid, which set a lap record of 7:25.31 in June last year. The pre-series Taycan was driven by Lars Kern.

Kevin Giek, Head of the model line, Porsche, stated, "Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport." He added, "This puts the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars.”

The new lap time of the upcoming Taycan is also just 2 seconds behind that of the Rimac Nevera's record of 7:05.298. However, the Taycan, although a pre-series model, is the fastest four-door EV to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Porsche claims that the upcoming Taycan could come with around 1000 BHP. The carmaker even stated that the onboard video of the full lap will be published in mid-March, indicating its unveil timeline.
