Bajaj Dominar 400 launched at Rs. 1.36 lakh

Bajaj has launched the Dominar 400 in India at an introductory price of Rs. 1.36 lakh for the standard non-ABS model, and Rs. 1.5 lakh for the ABS-equipped trim (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). Deliveries of the bike will start from January 2017. It will be offered in three colours: Twilight Plum, Midnight Blue and Moon White.

The Dominar 400 is a production-version of the CS400 concept that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. It retains the overall structure and appearance of the concept, though the company has made some changes to the production bike to make it suit Indian riding conditions and production requirements.

The Dominar 400 comes with LED headlights and taillights, a well-contoured fuel tank and a minimalistic tail design. The headlamp features a cluster of LEDs, with the main beam in the center, which is flanked by 6 low beam LED's and a parking lamp at the top. It also comes with standard Auto Headlamp On (AHO) feature. The bike gets two high-definition screens, one on the instrument cluster and the other on the fuel tank. The fuel tank display includes the Bajaj logo and other warning lights. Meanwhile, the LCD reverse display of the instrument cluster includes a digital speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge and clock.

The bike is built on a beam-type perimeter frame. It measures 2,156 mm in length, 813 mm in width and 1,112 mm in height. The wheelbase is scaled at 1,453 mm, which is longer than that of the 390 Duke. It gets 43 mm telescopic forks at the front and a multi-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. The bike tips the weighing scales at 182 kg, and has a fuel tank capacity of 13-litres.

Braking setup of the Dominar 400 includes a 320 mm disc at the front, and a 230 mm disc at the rear. The braking capabilities have further been boosted through the optional dual-channel ABS. The company claims that the bike can decelerate from 100-0 km/h in 46.19 metres. It is shod with 110/70 section tyres at the front and 150/60 at the rear, both wrapped around 17-inch alloy wheels.

Powering the Dominar 400 is a 373.3 cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel-injected engine, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It gets Bajaj's patented triple-spark DTS-i technology. This engine is capable of generating 34.5 BHP and 35 Nm of torque. It also gets a slipper clutch as standard. Bajaj claims that the bike can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.23 seconds, while its top speed is 148 km/h.

The Dominar 400 has an operating altitude of up to 18,380 ft. It will be competing against the likes of the Mahindra Mojo, KTM 390 Duke and Honda CBR250R. It might also attract a few potential customers of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, owing to the close proximity of the specs and prices of the Dominar and the Himalayan.

The Dominar 400 can now be booked through the company's official website at a token amount of Rs. 9,000. Initially, the bike will be available only in 22 towns.
