BMW imports petrol 3 and 5-Series; might sell petrols again

In 2015, BMW dropped all petrol variants from its 3-Series and 5-Series model line-up. This turned out to be a bad decision considering the fact that the market turned to towards petrol cars. BMW has fallen behind arch rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi in terms of sales in India.

Now, the company has imported a large number of the 320i and 520i sedans, which suggests that the company could be gearing up to launch these cars in India in the near future.

According to the price list and information available, the 320i will be available in Prestige and Luxury Line variants priced at Rs. 36.90 and 42.70 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. The 520i will be available in the Luxury Line variant. Both cars are powered by a 1,998cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that develops 181 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 270 Nm of torque @ 1,350-4,600 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW will hope that the reintroduction of the 320i and 520i will help it recover some of the ground it has lost.
