China accounts for 37% of brand's global sales, says Mercedes CEO

The company boss also stated that the carmaker was able to increase sales of its all-electric models in China by 150% in 2022.

Speaking in an interview, Ola Kallenius, Mercedes-Benz CEO, confirmed the importance of the Chinese market for the German car manufacturer.

Kallenius stated that the major players in the world economy - Europe, the USA and China, are very intertwined, and it's almost unthinkable for Mercedes-Benz to discontinue its operations in China.

The Mercedes-Benz boss also confirmed that China is an extremely important market for the German car maker. The Chinese market accounts for 37% of the brand's global sales and 18% of the company's revenue.

Kallenius also stated that there are certain areas where Chinese car manufacturers excel over Germany's legacy automakers and one such area is the infotainment. Kallenius added that entertainment electronics haven't played an important role for German customers so far, but Chinese car owners attach great importance to this. Hence, the LWB version of the new E-Class in China comes with features like karaoke.
