Continental & Swarovski unveil Crystal Centre display at CES

The tech makes the screen transparent while still managing to provide all the info.

Continental has partnered with Swarovski Mobility to unveil their new transparent in-car display. Called the 'Crystal Centre Display', the transparent screen is said to have been developed jointly by the two companies.

Carmakers like Mercedes-Benz & BMW have used Swarovski crystals in the headlights and/or in their interiors in the recent past. However, the new central screen from Continental comes in the form of a 10-inch central infotainment display made entirely from Swarovski crystal. The display comes with microLED tech inside the three-dimensional crystal body to display content. The tech makes the screen transparent while still managing to provide all the info.

Swarovski states that the crystal body is made via special grinding techniques to get a faceted look, which is "delicate yet extremely durable."

Dr Boris Mergell, Head of User Experience, Continental, stated, "With the Crystal Center Display as a key component, we want to turn the world of interior design on its head and create an innovative focal point for premium vehicles of the future – one that grabs attention and stirs emotions. We are moving away from the straightforward display of information and elevating it to a highly personalized user experience."
