Ford bats for small yet efficient battery packs for its EVs

Ford also recently announced that it was working on a full-size three-row electric SUV.

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently confirmed that the company wouldn't offer an EV with a large battery pack and a wild claimed range figure, like some of its rivals. Instead, Ford would focus on optimising its relatively smaller battery packs for efficiency. Farley said, "Smaller batteries, less labour content, cheaper distribution."

The company head mentioned how he didn't understand the current obsession with battery size in the industry. He added that instead of worrying about what range they can extract from a reasonable battery size, some automakers "tout something outright ridiculous." Farley compared this to how previously automakers competed to make models bigger, faster, louder etc.

He confirmed that Ford wouldn't be making a 600-mile range EV. Instead, it will make the smallest battery possible for a competitive range.

Ford also recently announced that it was working on a full-size three-row electric SUV. This upcoming EV is said to have a 100 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 350 miles.
