How to keep rats away from your car: Simple solution that worked for me

We did this and not one vehicle had any issue for the 10 days that we were away from our cars.

So I found a simple solution to rats for those who park their cars for a long term and in secured places like their garages or bungalows where there is no/minimal risk of theft.

On a recent trip to the US last month for an I4WDTA event, we were in the desert in New Mexico and there was a lot of concern for rodents and rattle snakes sneaking into the engine bays.

One of the trainers had a simple solution and it worked wonders.

The reason why rodents and snakes go into the engine bay is basically because it provides a sheltered environment from the heat, traps moisture and makes them feel safe in a dark environment.

The ingenious solution was to remove these factors. How to do it?

Simple, park your vehicle with the bonnet open. Thus, you remove the cozy environment for the critters.

We did that and not one vehicle had any issue for the ten days that we did our exercises in the desert. This was compared to a year before when at least 5 cars had rodent damage and from a few cars snakes were pulled out of the engine bay.

In our environment, this method could work only in a secure location (and maybe covered from the top in monsoons).

Hope this helps.
